Classes
The classes of Aion 2: the eight classes of the global version (Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter) across tank, healer and damage roles, the Brawler of Korea and Taiwan, the older English names Marksman and Elementalist, Stigma skills and the class overhaul of March 2026.
A class in Aion 2 is the combat profession a character is created with, and it fixes that character's weapon, skills and usual place in a party. The Korean and Taiwanese service, open since Nov 19, 2025, has nine classes; the global version on Steam and PURPLE, playable since Advanced Access opened on Sep 30, 2026 and free to everyone since Oct 5, has eight of them, every class except the Brawler. The eight launch classes are the Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. NC calls the game "the ultimate edition of the original Aion", and its classes divide into tanks, healers and damage dealers. Each class has its own page; this one covers what they share and how they compare.

The eight launch classes
NC first showed the classes on its Aion2NIGHT livestream of May 29, 2025 and gave each a one-line identity in an English release of Jun 4, 2025; its Gameplay Spotlight: Classes video of June 2026 presents all eight again ahead of the global release. The weapons in the table are the ones creators show each class carrying on the Korean and Taiwanese servers.
| Class | Weapon | Role | NC's description (June 2025) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Greatsword | Tank and melee damage | "Powerful, wide-area skill attacks" |
| Templar | Sword and shield | Main tank | "Core tanking role" |
| Assassin | Daggers | Melee damage, stealth | "Precision-based melee specialist" |

| Chanter | Staff | Melee support and healer | "A versatile support role with multiplayer utility" |
Because a class is tied to its weapon, CrusherXGaming advises new players to pick the workload they will enjoy rather than the class that looks best in a trailer.
On the global servers
All eight classes are playable on the global client. Ruca777's showcase, uploaded on Sep 30, 2026, the day Advanced Access opened, shows each of them at level 30 fighting the same boss in a dark red arena with the full interface on screen: the Sorcerer first, then the Assassin, Gladiator, Templar, Spiritmaster, Cleric, Ranger and Chanter, with music and no commentary. Each class page links to its own part of the video. NC's global site lists the same eight, and its launch shop sells weapon skins for eight weapon types, from the Greatsword to the Orb, with none for the Brawler's Gauntlets.
Early impressions of the classes differed. Tyler F.M. Edwards of MassivelyOP, who played mostly a Chanter in the Launch Scale Test of Sep 17 and 18 and briefly tried every other class, found very little separating them mechanically: each has a spammable skill that spends mana on the right mouse button, one that builds it on the left, and everything else on fairly long cooldowns, with few ways to change how a class plays, so that looks and sound were nearly all that set them apart. Kevin Link of S4G, who reached level 30 in the same test, found that the eight classes give enough variety to make the choice take a while, although their starting armor looks very similar. On the first day of Advanced Access, mein-mmo's Karsten Scholz called every class important and worth playing.
The first week of the free launch left the classes as they were. NC's first global patch notes, of Oct 6, 2026 (PDT), list fixes, drop rates and shop changes, and its maintenance of Oct 8 raised the Flight Power of the four quest wings; neither changes a class or a skill, and NC's notices up to Oct 12, 2026 announce no balance patch and no ninth class for the global version. Its producer's letter of Oct 10 promises new content "in a steady cadence", naming the Ludra raid's return and seasonal celebrations first, and no class.
Roles in a party
Aion 2 uses the "holy trinity" of tanks, damage dealers and healers, a presenter explained on NC's global release preview livestream of Aug 7, 2026, but it does not leave the classes inside their archetypes. The Templar is the traditional tank, focused on blocking and on buffing party members with armor and shields; the Gladiator can lead from the front as a tank while dealing heavy damage. Since Jul 1, 2026 in Korea, and from the start on the global servers, Expedition and Transcendence parties hold five players and Sanctuary raids ten (see Expedition Dungeons, Transcendence Dungeons and Sanctuary Raids).
The two tanks share a mechanic. As Grobs explains it, a correctly timed block by either a Templar or a Gladiator activates the same damage buff for the whole party, so blocking is an attack as well as a defense. The Templar brings more mitigation, including tools that redirect teammates' damage onto itself, and Grobs says it is usually preferred while a group is still learning a raid. The Gladiator heals through lifesteal, can grant lifesteal to the party, and may become the better choice once everyone knows the mechanics and the group wants more damage.
Four of the eight launch classes are pure damage dealers. On the same livestream the presenter describes the Assassin as a melee class whose key element is stealth, the Ranger as a bow user that shoots from range, the Sorcerer as a caster who wields fire and ice, and the Spiritmaster as a summoner of elemental spirits that fight at its side. The Assassin and Ranger deal physical damage, the Sorcerer and Spiritmaster magical damage.
They differ most in how their damage arrives. Grobs describes the Assassin as a class of short burst windows built around self-buffs such as Elusive Clone, strongest in short fights; the Ranger as the most complete all-rounder, with steady damage that does not hinge on its buffs; the Spiritmaster as a class that layers its own attacks with its spirits and becomes very competitive in long boss fights; and the Sorcerer as a chain of spells linked by cooldown reductions, which only comes together once its skills are leveled.
There are two healers. The Cleric is the traditional healer and can resurrect allies in combat, which the presenter calls especially useful while a group is still learning a fight. The Chanter is a hybrid: Grobs notes that it has fewer purely healing skills than the Cleric but makes up for them with shields and party-wide mantras such as Power of the Storm, and that it can keep a party alive through normal dungeons but finds it much harder to carry a punishing raid alone.
The two support classes overlap. OmniPower points out that the Chanter's Undefeated Mantra does not stack with the Cleric's Light of Protection, both of which raise the party's damage, and Grobs adds that although some of their damage buffs override each other, their healing, shields and cleanses combine well.
Combat and skills
Every class plays under the same combat rules. NC describes manual combat with hit confirmation and no auto-combat, and the Fextralife wiki notes that all classes benefit from back attacks. CrusherXGaming describes two control schemes, an "Aion 2 mode" in which a reticle picks targets with an optional hard lock and an "Aion 1 mode" with a traditional cursor, along with skill chains that transform on the same key, timed dodges with invincibility frames, and animation lock: a long attack started at the wrong moment cannot be canceled to dodge what comes next. According to Fextralife, each class has about 12 active skills and 8 default quick slots, and there are no MP potions: MP returns through basic attacks or by waiting (see Combat System).
Much of each kit is conditional. In OmniPower's Gladiator setup, Ankle Slice can be cast only after a parry or a landed Leaping Slam, Aerial Snare only on a knocked-down or incapacitated target, and Rush Strike only after a dodge or in mid-flight. The Templar's Shield Rush, the Assassin's Infiltrate and the Chanter's Tremor Crush are gap closers with the same dodge-or-flight condition. OmniPower strings such skills into macros, holding the basic attack on the left mouse button together with a macro key. CrusherXGaming adds that skills gain major traits at levels 8, 12 and 16, and the Daevanion Boards add further nodes for active and passive skills (see Skills, Stigmas and Macros).
Position matters differently by class. Grobs says the Assassin has passives that trigger only when it strikes from behind, while the Ranger receives no positional benefits at all; EPIC PLK finds that the Brawler, unusually, is rewarded for standing in front of its target.
Stigma skills and the March 2026 overhaul
NC's "major class overhaul" reached Korea and Taiwan on Mar 25, 2026. It added a new Stigma skill for every class "to highlight each class's unique identity", raised the maximum number of Stigma slots to five, and introduced two defensive mechanics, Perfect Shield Block and Perfect Parry. The same update stopped Immune and Immortal effects from being applied consecutively within a 30-second window, separated PvP and PvE damage calculations, and adjusted skills to narrow damage gaps. Society Of Gaming demonstrates one of the new skills, the Sorcerer's Hibernation, which freezes the caster in place while it recovers health.
| Class | Stigma skill added on Mar 25, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Gladiator | Fracturing Rush |
| Templar | Battlefield Banner |
| Assassin | Shadowstep |
| Ranger | Supporting Fire |
| Sorcerer | Hibernation |
| Spiritmaster (Elementalist in NC's release) | Command: Proxy |
| Cleric | Reincarnating Touch |
| Chanter | Barrier Spell |
Several of these skills sit in creators' everyday rotations. OmniPower opens his Spiritmaster buff rotation with Command: Proxy, which raises damage tolerance and shares the damage he takes with his spirit, and uses the Ranger's Supporting Fire to summon an orb that deals damage and absorbs health. Sen, playing a Gladiator on the Korean and Taiwanese servers in July 2026, says the slot limit had by then risen again, to six.
The global version does not necessarily match these Korean patches. NC's global team told Hardcore Gamer in June 2026 that the global service would be "close to a year behind" Korea in content, with a backlog to roll out as it watches player data and feedback, and NC America told Wccftech in September 2026 that the West starts with a modified Season 1, Korea's launch season (see Global Release). NC's global notices through Sep 30, 2026 do not say how many Stigma slots the global version has.
Names in different translations
Two classes have gone by different English names. NC's English release of June 2025 called the bow class the Marksman and the summoner the Spiritmaster; its release of March 2026 used Ranger and Elementalist; and Hardcore Gamer's Summer Game Fest preview of June 2026 lists them as Ranger and Spirit Master. The Fextralife wiki uses Elementalist, and CrusherXGaming warns viewers that databases sometimes list the Spiritmaster as the Elementalist, the same class. The global version settled the question when it went live on Sep 30, 2026: NC's global site lists the classes as Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Chanter, Cleric, Sorcerer and Spiritmaster, and its shop notice of the same day limits class weapon skins with those eight names, the Bow skin to the Ranger and the Orb skin to the Spiritmaster. Marksman, Elementalist and Spirit Master survive only in older material, and this wiki uses Ranger and Spiritmaster.
The Brawler
The ninth class exists only in Korea and Taiwan. NC announced the Brawler at its SUMMER FESTA showcase in Seoul on Jun 14, 2026 and released it on Jul 1, 2026 with Chapter 1: Lands of Sand and Snow. It fights with Gauntlets, specializes in "front-line attacks and combo-based charges", and builds Rage with basic attacks and active skills until the gauge triggers a Rampage state; to mark its arrival NC gave every player a free character slot. The Brawler is not on the global servers, as CrusherXGaming pointed out in his pre-launch guide: NC's global class list and launch shop cover the other eight classes only, and NC had announced no date for it as of Sep 30, 2026.
Character slots, alts and class change
Players who want to try several classes need several characters. The global version opens with four character slots, which can be expanded to eight, NC's presenters said on Aug 7, 2026. SywoGG notes that gear and almost all other progression is bound to the character, so bringing a second class up to a main's standard takes a long time; he suggests playing a second choice as an active alt from the start.
A Class Change Ticket exists, but CrusherXGaming describes it as level-gated, restricted in how it can be used and tied to gear-conversion requirements, an emergency exit rather than a way to respec. He advises against picking a class on the assumption of changing it later, and notes that the ticket's price and availability on the global version still need confirmation.
Slots are counted per server. When server transfers open on Oct 14, 2026, a character keeps its class, skills, Stigmas and Daevanion boards, according to NC's notice of Oct 9, but the slots bought on the old server stay there, and each slot missing on the destination costs 1,000 Quna (Servers).
Class balance
Balance is still moving. Grobs warns that nobody knows what the meta will look like on the global version and that the developers are still making major class and balance changes, so he advises choosing a playstyle rather than whichever class currently looks strongest. Society Of Gaming, who has played on the Korean and Taiwanese servers since launch, judged in September 2026 that no class was then either really bad or overpowered, while noting that patches nerf and buff classes in turn.
The global classes are the current Korean ones. Playing a Chanter on the first day of the Launch Scale Test, Society Of Gaming found that although the global version starts with Korea's first season of content, its skills come from a recent Korean patch: the Chanter's Spinning Strike, made a ranged skill in Korea only about two weeks earlier, was already ranged on the global client.
That makes older comparisons unreliable. Sen, a Gladiator main with more than 1,000 hours on the Taiwanese servers, warned after the test against judging the global version by the Korean or Taiwanese game of a year earlier, given the changes to combat, classes, balance and pay-to-win elements since, and said there is no tier list and technically no meta yet, with changes arriving every week.
Spid, who reached the test's level cap after playing in Taiwan and Korea, found the boss fights the game's strongest part and the tank, healer and damage trinity very important in them, and with balance patches coming every week or two, he concluded that "you can't really select a bad class".
Some testers came away from the Launch Scale Test believing the global classes were balanced differently from Korea's. aLuckyRO, comparing the test client with the Taiwanese one side by side, blames two bugs, one on the Templar and one on the Spiritmaster, and reports that NC said on a Japanese livestream that class balance stays the same as in Korea and Taiwan, with future balance changes there reaching the global version too. His account of that stream has not been checked against NC's own words, but an NC official told Korean press on Sep 30, 2026 that the global version's play standards are "basically the same as Korea and Taiwan".
Tier lists for the global launch
The creators' rankings side by side, by content, are on Tier List; this section sums up the first ones.
The first tier lists for the global version came out in the last days before Advanced Access, and their authors warn that Korean ones do not transfer. CrusherXGaming's list of Sep 28, 2026, which judges the classes on solo leveling, dungeons, control and survival, and Abyss PvP, puts the Spiritmaster alone at the top: with no heroic gear in the first season nobody outgears the content early, its spirits make solo leveling safe, and its fears, silences and debuffs disrupt fights in the Abyss. The Gladiator and Chanter follow in S tier, the Cleric and Templar in A tier, and the Ranger, Sorcerer and Assassin in B tier, and he advises newcomers to skip the Assassin and Sorcerer as a first main.
XifanGG's list of Sep 29, 2026, drawn from an Assassin player with more than 5,000 hours on the Taiwanese servers, ranks the classes separately for each kind of content. For progression in Sanctuary raids the Cleric and Templar are S tier and almost irreplaceable, with the Gladiator and Chanter in A tier; in late PvE, where many bosses die in 30 to 40 seconds, the Assassin's burst rises and the tank and healer fall back; in large Abyss battles all the ranged classes are S tier and the Assassin and Gladiator C tier; and for free-to-play players the Cleric is S tier, because a party needs its healing even when it is undergeared.
Other creators are more cautious still. EUTOPIA, in a pre-launch guide of Sep 29, 2026, cites an analysis by an Asian creator that favored the Ranger, Spiritmaster and Sorcerer for solo starts on the global version, because it compresses early gearing, and stresses that this is "not an official global tier list".
Frequently asked questions
How many classes does Aion 2 have? Aion 2 has nine classes in Korea and Taiwan since the Brawler arrived on Jul 1, 2026. The global version has eight, playable since Advanced Access opened on Sep 30, 2026 and free to everyone since Oct 5, 2026.
What are the class names on the global version? Aion 2's eight global classes are the Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Chanter, Cleric, Sorcerer and Spiritmaster, as NC's global site and its shop notice of Sep 30, 2026 list them.
Is the Brawler in the global version? No. Aion 2's global class list and shop cover eight classes, and NC had announced no date for the Brawler outside Korea and Taiwan as of Oct 12, 2026.
Is the Ranger the same class as the Marksman? Yes. In Aion 2 they are one class: NC's English release of June 2025 called the bow class the Marksman; its later releases and the global client use Ranger.
Is the Elementalist the same as the Spiritmaster? Yes, both names mean the same Aion 2 class. NC's March 2026 release and the Fextralife wiki use Elementalist, and Hardcore Gamer wrote Spirit Master in June 2026; the global client uses Spiritmaster, as NC's first English release did.
Can I try every class on the global version? All eight of Aion 2's global classes are available, but each needs its own character: NC said in August 2026 that the global version opens with four character slots, expandable to eight.
Which classes can heal? In Aion 2 the Cleric is the main healer and the Chanter a hybrid support that heals, shields and buffs. Society Of Gaming says the Cleric is the only class with a resurrection skill.
How many characters can I make on the global version? Aion 2's global version gives four character slots at launch, expandable to eight, counted per server.
What is the best class in Aion 2? There is no official answer, and it depends on the content: creators' lists put the Cleric and Templar on top for raids, the ranged classes for large Abyss battles and the Spiritmaster for solo leveling. See Tier List.
What is the best solo class in Aion 2? For solo leveling, CrusherXGaming's list of Sep 28, 2026 puts the Spiritmaster first, because its spirits make leveling safe while nobody can outgear the content early; the analysis EUTOPIA cites favors the Ranger, Spiritmaster and Sorcerer for solo starts.
What is the best PvP class in Aion 2? For large Abyss battles, XifanGG ranks all the ranged classes in S tier and the Assassin and Gladiator in C tier; CrusherXGaming picks the Spiritmaster for Abyss PvP for its fears, silences and debuffs. Arena duels are a different test (PvP).
Which Aion 2 class is best for beginners? There is no official answer, and creators differ. CrusherXGaming's global tier list of Sep 28, 2026 puts the Spiritmaster first for safe solo leveling and advises newcomers to skip the Assassin and Sorcerer as a first main; an analysis EUTOPIA cites favors the Ranger, Spiritmaster and Sorcerer for solo starts; XifanGG ranks the Cleric top for free-to-play players because every party needs a healer.
Which Aion 2 classes are tanks? The Templar is the main tank, with sword and shield, and the Gladiator can tank while dealing heavy damage. The Cleric and Chanter heal, and the Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer and Spiritmaster deal damage.
Can you change class in Aion 2? Not freely. CrusherXGaming describes a Class Change Ticket that is level-gated and tied to gear-conversion requirements, and its price and availability on the global version were not confirmed; a second class normally means a second character.
Have any classes been buffed or nerfed since the global launch? Not as of Oct 16, 2026. NC's global patch notes of Oct 6 and its maintenance notice of Oct 8, 2026 contain no class or skill changes, and the patch notes of Oct 13 (PDT) only fix bugs: the Spiritmaster's Summon: Ancient Spirit not using its skills at level 15 or below, and elevation and effect bugs in the Sorcerer's Fire Wall, Cold Storm and Bittercold Wind (NC on Steam); NC has said that balance changes made in Korea and Taiwan reach the global version too, according to aLuckyRO's account of a Japanese livestream.
