PvP

Player versus player in Aion 2: the Elyos and Asmodian war, separate faction servers and matchmaking, duels, rifts, the Arena, Battlefield, the Abyss and its sieges, Abyss Points and PvP gear, balance, and what the global launch and its test include.

Player versus player (PvP) in Aion 2 is combat between players, rooted in the war between the Elyos and the Asmodians that every character joins by choosing a faction at creation. Asked in NC's PvP showcase of September 2026 whether PvP really starts at character creation, the host agreed: the war "has been going on for a lot of time", it carries over into PvP, and "this is kind of really the root of PvP". NC named four competitive modes when it showed the game in August 2025: Arena, Battlefield, Rift and Abyss (NC). Each has its own page; this page explains how they fit together.

Quick facts

Modes named by NC (August 2025) Arena, Battlefield, Rift, Abyss
Unlock level 45, for arenas, Battlefield, the Abyss and rifts
Factions Elyos and Asmodians, on separate servers
Server pairing (global) Each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server for the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts; pairings change periodically (NC, Sep 29, 2026)
Open world PvP toggle in Atreia; the Abyss is always PvP (global)
Arena Ranked 1v1 and 5v5 with players' own gear (global)
Battlefield 10v10 with equalized gear and skills (global)
PvP and PvE damage Calculated separately since Mar 25, 2026 (Korea and Taiwan)
Launch Scale Test Abyss, arenas, Battlefield and rifts unavailable (Sep 17 and 18, 2026)
Advanced Access PvP modes open from Sep 30, 2026, with early access servers matched only among themselves

Factions, servers and matchmaking

NC said in June 2025 that Elyos and Asmodians would play on separate servers to improve faction balance, with the story leading into large-scale Realm-versus-Realm battles (NC). NC America's announcement of April 2026 promised "1v1 and 4v4 arenas to massive-scale, cross-server RvR (Realm-vs-Realm) battles, and the return of the faction-based Abyss" for the global release (Games Press).

ExitLag Tips' explainer of August 2026 describes the result. Because the factions live on separate servers, the main point of contact between them is The Abyss (Reshanta), a PvP and PvE zone linking both sides, while other content has its own rules and matchmaking. In Korea and Taiwan NC has paired Elyos and Asmodian servers using combat activity, Abyss kills and siege performance, and NC's release of Mar 11, 2026 announced a fourth round of that server matching to balance Abyss play, alongside cross-faction PvE parties (NC). On Mar 25, 2026 the Korean Abyss went further with the Chaotic Abyss, which divides servers into West and East forces regardless of race.

The global version works the same way at first. NC's matchmaking post of Sep 29, 2026 explains that each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server "for a limited time": whenever players enter the Abyss, a Spacetime Rift or another cross-faction mode, the enemies they meet come from the matched server, and NC "will update server pairings periodically to keep the factions balanced" (NC on Steam; Servers). During Advanced Access the early access servers are matched only among themselves; after launch, NC's July notice on early access says the Abyss pairs servers by how far along and how strong each one is (NC; Gamevu). Dungeons are different: all instanced PvE content is cross-server, so players from many servers meet as allies there (NC on Steam).

Is PvP optional?

Largely, yes. Anders, who plays on the Korean servers, stresses that a character can progress without ever queuing for an arena, though he recommends one weekly visit to the Abyss. NC's global team confirmed in August 2026 that the PvP on and off toggle will be there from the start in the open world of Atreia, but that the Abyss is "a PvP always on zone": anyone who goes there knows they will fight.

The Launch Scale Test showed the toggle at work. Kentaro, comparing the test with the Korean and Taiwanese client, notes that players can now flag themselves for PvP inside their own territory, and that certain actions temporarily force the PvP flag on.

PvP unlocks at level 45. NC's host calls that a safeguard, giving players time to learn the game, their class and their skill rotations before PvP opens towards the endgame; the route to 45 is on Leveling.

The modes

The most casual form is the duel. Players can challenge anyone nearby, with no queue, no ranking and nothing at stake, and Anders suggests duels as practice against real opponents before ranked play. Open-world PvP happens through the Spacetime Rift, which opens a way into the other faction's territory for an hour; there, players flagged for PvP can fight each other, while those flagged for PvE farm in peace.

Grobs, comparing Aion 2 with Throne and Liberty in August 2026, calls Aion 2 a PvE game that still offers plenty of PvP: 1v1 and 5v5 arenas, 10v10 battlegrounds, and the Abyss as an always-on PvP zone where players farm resources for their progression, with sieges between the factions. He adds that there is no guild-against-guild content of the kind Throne and Liberty players enjoy.

The two queued modes differ in one key respect. NC's hosts explain that in the 5v5 Arena everyone brings their own gear and skill levels, "not equalized or matched in any way", while the 10v10 Battlefield equalizes them so that the result comes down to skill and coordination.

The Abyss is the main PvP area. Anders calls it more of a PvX zone, since most reasons to go there are PvE: quests, monsters and field bosses that the other faction also wants. At the global launch it has a single map, Chaotic Lower Reshanta, which needs level 45 and 1,000 item level. Its scheduled battles over artifacts are covered on Artifact Siege.

Mode Format Gear Where
Duel 1v1 challenge, no ranking Own gear With a nearby player
Spacetime Rift Invasion of the other faction's map for an hour Own gear, PvP flag needed Enemy territory
Arena Ranked 1v1 and 5v5 (4v4 at the Korean launch) Own gear Instanced
Battlefield 10v10 objectives; Battlefield: Siege in Korea Equalized Instanced, set times in Korea
Abyss Always-on PvPvE zone with field bosses Own gear The Abyss (Reshanta)
Artifact Siege Scheduled faction battles over artifacts Own gear The Abyss (Reshanta)

Abyss Points, medals and PvP gear

PvP pays in Abyss Points and medals. Anders explains that Abyss Points buy more Stigma skill points, which is why even PvE players want them (Skills, Stigmas and Macros), while Abyss Points and medals together buy PvP gear (Gear Progression). Fextralife's translations of the first Korean patches show how the rules were tuned: from Nov 20, 2025 killing a lower-level enemy paid 20% fewer points per level of difference and nothing beyond five levels, and from Nov 21 an arena victory paid 100 Abyss Points and a Battlefield victory 1,000. Xela's summary of the Season 2 roadmap describes weekly Abyss Point caps being replaced by season caps that rise each week, so late starters can catch up.

Grobs liked the principle, that PvP gear is earned through PvP, but warned in December 2025 that it snowballs. The best source of the currency is killing other players in the Abyss, so the players who play or pay most early buy the strongest gear first, win more fights and earn still more, until every PvP mode becomes "a gear check first".

Balance and the PvP and PvE split

Early verdicts on the Korean launch were mixed. KaidGames2 found PvP the most fun part of the game two days in, with fights long enough to outplay an opponent, but "extremely unbalanced" between classes. He also objected to a shop health potion that gave paying players more sustain in PvP.

Three months later aselon_eu described PvP as having suffered early from class imbalance and fights that ended in seconds. NC had since changed how stats scale in PvP, raised defensive values and adjusted skills across several classes, which lengthened fights, though ranged classes still held an advantage in the Abyss. NC's class overhaul of Mar 25, 2026 separated PvP and PvE damage calculations and stopped Immune and Immortal effects from being applied back to back within 30 seconds (NC); Xela reports that Season 2 had already split PvP and PvE gear. The fan site aion2hub records many further Korean balance passes, including a 30% cut to all PvP damage on Jul 8, 2026. Class choices are compared on Classes and the combat itself on Combat System.

PvP on the global version

The global version, open to Founder's Pack buyers since Sep 30, 2026 and to everyone from Oct 5 (Global Release), keeps the structure with some changes. NC announced stat-normalized 10v10 battlegrounds at its livestream of Aug 7, 2026 (GamesBeat), and its September stream described ranked 1v1 and 5v5 arenas, rifts every three hours with player limits still being tuned, and artifact battles in the Abyss. MP1st's hands-on preview of Sep 23 listed "PvP fights (1v1 and 4v4 confirmed)" alongside large Realm-versus-Realm battles, so the global team size is best checked in game (MP1st; Arena). NC's global team has said the global version will be "close to a year behind" Korea in content (Hardcore Gamer), so later Abyss maps and modes such as Battlefield: Siege may arrive after launch.

PvP is open in Advanced Access: NC's release for the early access launch lists PvP modes "including battlegrounds and dimensional rifts", with progress kept afterwards (Inven Global), and MassivelyOP reported full PvE and PvP enabled from the first day (MassivelyOP). NC has published no per-faction size for global Abyss battles; Korea itself cut the largest, the Abyss Rift Zone, from 400 against 400 to 300 per faction on Jul 15, 2026 (NC). Korean schedule changes do not carry over automatically: the Sep 30, 2026 update that moved Korea's Artifact Siege start times applies to the Korean and Taiwanese servers only (Artifact Siege).

Little PvP was available before launch. In the Launch Scale Test of Sep 17 and 18, 2026 the rift and Battlefield were disabled, and the level cap of 37 kept players out of the Abyss; Society Of Gaming added that the arenas were closed too. Anders noted that duels were not on the list of disabled features, which may have made them the only way to try PvP before launch.

Testers of the global build were cautious about PvP. Spid, who reached the Launch Scale Test's cap after playing in Taiwan and Korea, expects large-scale fights to suffer from rendering, so that players get "clapped from far away without knowing what actually hit you", finds fighting while flying clunky and says he "wouldn't sell this game as a PVP game", while expecting the equalized battlegrounds to be fairly balanced.

PvP ranks and the PvP tier list

PvP ranks. The Abyss ranks run from Trainee through nine Soldier grades and five Officer grades to General, Marshal, Commander and Supreme Commander. They come from rank points, which are separate from Abyss Points, and from a character's place in its own class's ranking; the Season 1 table, rank titles and how to climb are on Abyss Guide. The Arena keeps its own ranked ladder, and both rankings pay Season 1 titles (Titles and Achievements Guide).

PvP tier list. No official ranking exists, and creators rank the classes by format. XifanGG's list of Sep 29, 2026, from an Assassin with more than 5,000 hours on the Taiwanese servers, puts every ranged class in S tier for large Abyss battles and the Assassin and Gladiator in C tier there; CrusherXGaming's list of Sep 28 favors the Spiritmaster in Abyss PvP for its fears, silences and debuffs. Small fights and duels reward other classes, so check the format. The lists side by side are on Tier List, and balance is discussed on Classes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best PvP class in Aion 2? There is no official answer. For large Abyss battles XifanGG ranks all the ranged classes in S tier; CrusherXGaming picks the Spiritmaster for Abyss PvP. See Tier List.

What are the PvP ranks in Aion 2? The Abyss ranks, from Trainee and Ninth-Class Soldier up to Supreme Commander, given by rank points and your place in your class's ranking (Abyss Guide).

Is PvP optional in Aion 2? Mostly. Players can switch open-world PvP off with a toggle and progress without arenas, but the Abyss is always PvP, and many players visit it weekly for Abyss Points.

What level do you need for PvP? Level 45 unlocks the arenas, Battlefield, the Abyss and rifts. Duels are not level-gated in any source found.

How do Elyos and Asmodians fight if they play on separate servers? They meet in the Abyss, where matched servers share the zone, and through the Spacetime Rift, which lets players cross into the other faction's territory. On the global version each Elyos server is paired with one Asmodian server, and NC changes the pairings periodically to keep the factions balanced.

Which server will I fight against? The one your server is paired with. During Advanced Access the early access servers were matched only among themselves; after launch NC matches servers by how far along and how strong each one is. The current pairings are listed on Servers.

Is Aion 2 PvP gear-based? The Arena and the Abyss use players' own gear, and creators have criticized how gear snowballs there. The Battlefield equalizes gear and skills.

Is there guild-against-guild PvP? Not as a dedicated mode; Grobs notes the absence compared with Throne and Liberty. Large battles are between factions, in the Abyss and its sieges.

Could you try PvP in the Launch Scale Test? Only duels, as far as is known. The Abyss, arenas, Battlefield and rifts were unavailable during the test of Sep 17 and 18, 2026.

Was PvP open during Advanced Access? Yes. NC's early access release lists battlegrounds and rifts among the modes available from Sep 30, 2026, and progress carries over to the launch on Oct 5.
