Ranger

The Ranger of Aion 2, the longbow class NC first called the Marksman: steady ranged damage with no positional needs, traps, snares and stealth, precision and mark combos, the Supporting Fire Stigma, fragility up close, and kiting in PvP.

The Ranger is the bow class of Aion 2, a ranged physical damage dealer that fights with a longbow from a distance. It is one of the eight launch classes, playable in Korea and Taiwan since Nov 19, 2025 and on the global servers since Advanced Access opened on Sep 30, 2026, ahead of the free-to-play launch on Oct 5. NC's first English description of the class, in June 2025, called it the Marksman, a "long-range scout class"; its later releases and the global client use Ranger. Grobs calls it probably the most complete all-rounder among the classes, good at nearly everything and weak in very few situations. All the classes are compared on Classes.

Name

NC's English release of Jun 4, 2025 listed the class as the Marksman. By its release of Mar 25, 2026 NC was calling it the Ranger, as did Hardcore Gamer's Summer Game Fest preview in June 2026 and the presenters of NC's global release preview livestream on Aug 7, 2026, who joke that a class that shoots its bow from range has a good name. The Fextralife wiki also uses Ranger and describes a ranged attacker using bows and traps. The global client settled it when it went live on Sep 30, 2026: NC's global site lists the class as the Ranger, and NC's shop notice of the same day restricts the new Bow weapon skins to "Ranger" players. Marksman is now only a name from NC's first English material.

On the global servers

The Ranger is one of the eight classes of the global client. In Ruca777's all-classes showcase, uploaded on Sep 30, 2026 as Advanced Access opened, a level 30 Ranger fights the same boss as the other seven classes in a dark red arena, with the full interface on screen.

CrusherXGaming's global tier list of Sep 28, 2026 puts the Ranger in B tier. He rates it highly for aerial fights in the Abyss, but reports that at the Launch Scale Test's level 37 cap the Ranger posted some of the lowest damage numbers. XifanGG's list of the next day puts all the ranged classes in S tier for large Abyss battles, and the Ranger lower for free-to-play players because its value depends heavily on damage.

How it plays

EPIC PLK found that the Ranger reminded him of the Assassin: not in its mechanics, since the Ranger stands much further away, but in its rhythm of short attacks, quick reactions and constant movement, with almost no time spent waiting for a long cast. Where the Sorcerer sometimes has to stop and commit to a spell, and the Gladiator waits for its greatsword to open a window, the Ranger follows the fight and keeps shooting while others deal with a mechanic. Its damage is sustained rather than built around one large window, so uptime is where it earns its damage.

Grobs describes a straightforward kit: ranged attacks that are not especially flashy but give consistent single-target and area damage, and that by the late game feel like firing a machine gun. The Ranger has important self-buffs, but unlike the Assassin its kit does not depend on them, and it receives no positional benefits, so it need not worry about where it stands relative to a boss. That makes it relatively easy to understand while leaving plenty of room for optimization.

SywoGG calls it a very popular choice and very comfortable to play, thanks to its mobility and skills that can be configured for fluidity at little cost to damage. What he likes most is how it scales, from an archer that barely draws its bow early on to a machine gun of fire, ice and poison later. It is not the highest damage class and does not have the highest ceiling, he says, but it does well because it can keep hitting while other classes handle mechanics, and it shines brighter when min-maxed.

Skills and rotation

OmniPower's Ranger works on precision and conditions. Gale Arrow grants a large buff; Drill Dart, usable only after a critical hit, applies bleed; and Tempest Shot is the spammable area attack. Marking Shot grants the Precision buff, which raises critical hit and perfect chance, and Death Shot, the Ranger's main burst skill, deals more damage under Precision, as Suppressing Arrow needs Precision to stun. Snare Shot slows, Explosive Arrow deals extra damage to slowed enemies, Burst Arrow can only be used on rooted or slowed targets, and Arrow Storm is a large area attack that can stun. For peeling he keeps Explosion Trap, which jumps the Ranger back and leaves a trap that can stun (see Skills, Stigmas and Macros).

CrusherXGaming says that what decides whether a Ranger is good is not a skill but footwork. He opens with Snipe for a heavy hit, keeps up pressure with rapid shots, controls the ground with traps, uses Snare Shot and similar arrows to keep melee enemies off, and points out that the Ranger has stealth too. Its ceiling is distance: while it holds the gap it is one of the safest classes, but once an Assassin closes in the same kit becomes a liability.

One later attack changes the feel entirely. EPIC PLK describes it as the moment the Ranger stops being an archer and calls in military support: an attack that comes down like a small airstrike and lights up the whole area. Beneath the constant shooting he found more setup than he expected, with marks, slows, binds and precision effects that make later attacks stronger, all applied while the Ranger keeps moving.

Supporting Fire

NC's class overhaul of Mar 25, 2026 in Korea and Taiwan gave the Ranger a new Stigma skill, Supporting Fire. OmniPower uses it in his buff rotation: it summons an orb that deals damage and absorbs health. The same overhaul raised the Stigma slot limit to five and introduced Perfect Parry and Perfect Shield Block for every class.

Survival and positioning

The Ranger's movement is its defense. EPIC PLK lists its slows, binds, knockbacks, traps and stealth as tools for keeping enemies away, and notes that an enemy mechanic need not stop its damage: it repositions, turns back to the target and carries on. What it lacks is the Gladiator's ability to stand in the middle of a disaster and keep trading blows, so a Ranger that is caught and held quickly becomes uncomfortable.

Its fragility shows in solo boss fights too. On NC's global preview livestream a presenter contrasts the Cleric, which can heal itself in a one-on-one boss encounter, with the Ranger, which he calls squishy enough to die in one shot to a mechanic he fails to dodge. Society Of Gaming adds that the Ranger feels squishy on bad or even average gear and comes into its own once it is geared.

Open world and PvE

Grobs finds the Ranger extremely good at open-world farming, especially early on, when in his words the Ranger is king and other classes only catch up later. EPIC PLK finds normal questing very comfortable, because the Ranger starts attacking before an enemy reaches it and often finishes the fight before the mob can do anything useful, and he notes that balance passes before his video of July 2026 had buffed several of its important PvE attacks.

PvP

On paper the Ranger sounds horrible to fight: it can kite, apply control, shoot while moving and disappear when things go wrong. EPIC PLK points out that the other player is allowed to move too, so every mistake in spacing becomes dangerous, and that several experienced Korean Rangers recommend building more health, evasion and general survival rather than stacking damage alone. Grobs rates it strong in every type of PvP, with stuns, snares, knockbacks and plenty of mobility, and says a Ranger that kites well can be very hard to reach (see PvP).

Large battles suit it. EPIC PLK finds the Ranger comfortable switching targets, attacking from safety and punishing players who are busy with someone else, without having to win long duels against melee players. Grobs adds that in sieges it can stay at range and keep dealing damage without throwing itself into the middle of the fight, and Society Of Gaming finds ranged classes such as the Ranger, Sorcerer and Spiritmaster at an advantage over melee in the flying open world.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Ranger the same class as the Marksman? Yes. NC's English release of June 2025 called the bow class the Marksman; its release of March 2026 and the global client, live since Sep 30, 2026, use Ranger.

Can I play a Ranger on the global version? Yes. It is one of the eight global classes, playable since Advanced Access opened on Sep 30, 2026 and free to everyone from Oct 5.

What weapon does the Ranger use? A longbow.

Does the Ranger have stealth? Yes. CrusherXGaming and EPIC PLK both list stealth in its kit, alongside traps, slows, binds and knockbacks.

Is the Ranger good for beginners? Creators think so. Grobs finds it easy to understand, SywoGG lists it among the easiest classes to play, and CrusherXGaming stresses that footwork, more than the rotation, is what separates good Rangers.

Is the Ranger squishy? Yes. It is safe while it controls the distance but fragile once caught, and creators advise gearing it up and building some survivability.

Does the Ranger need to attack from behind? No. Grobs says the Ranger receives no positional benefits, so it can shoot from wherever is safe.
