Assassin
The Assassin of Aion 2: a dagger-wielding stealth melee class built on burst windows, attacks from behind and fast gap closers, with its Insignia combos, the Shadowstep Stigma, and a reputation in duels and small-scale PvP.
The Assassin is the stealth melee damage dealer of Aion 2, a dagger class that gets close, strikes in short bursts and uses stealth as one of its key elements. It is one of the eight launch classes, playable in Korea and Taiwan since Nov 19, 2025 and on the global servers since Advanced Access opened on Sep 30, 2026, ahead of the free-to-play launch on Oct 5. NC calls it a "precision-based melee specialist", and its damage depends on timing its buffs and attacking from behind. All the classes are compared on Classes.

On the global servers
The Assassin is one of the eight classes of the global client, under that name. In Ruca777's all-classes showcase, uploaded on Sep 30, 2026 as Advanced Access opened, a level 30 Assassin fights the same boss as the other seven classes in a dark red arena, with the full interface on screen and large critical-hit numbers flashing up during its attacks.
mein-mmo's Karsten Scholz made an Elyos Assassin on that first day. Once past the disconnections of the opening hours, he found the leveling quick and the fights action-packed and very fast, though the bosses of the early game fell within seconds.
CrusherXGaming's global tier list of Sep 28, 2026 puts the Assassin in B tier. He credits it with the highest skill ceiling in Aion 2 but calls it one of the most ping-sensitive classes in the game, and advises brand new players not to make it their first main.
XifanGG's list of Sep 29, 2026 sees the Assassin rise later on: many conquest bosses die in 30 to 40 seconds, a short burst window that suits it perfectly. The same list ranks it among the best early solo PvP classes but C tier in large Abyss battles.
An iconic class
NC's pre-registration release of Sep 12, 2025 calls the Assassin "one of the most popular and iconic classes from the original Aion", and says that core PvP content including the Abyss was introduced through a live demo featuring the class. The Fextralife wiki describes a stealthy melee damage dealer with burst damage.
Society Of Gaming, who has played on the Korean and Taiwanese servers since launch, describes an Aion 2 Assassin in the terms players would expect from any MMORPG: a melee damage class with daggers, plenty of gap closers including two jumps to the target, and very high burst damage in both PvE and PvP. By his account it has been among the strongest classes in both for most of the game's first nine months.
Burst windows
The Assassin does not deal the same damage throughout a fight. Grobs describes it as a class of short burst windows: its damage takes off when its important self-buffs are lined up and used at the right time, and falls away once they expire. The most important is Elusive Clone, which in Grobs's words removes the cooldown from one of the main damage abilities so that it can be spammed at a ridiculous speed; OmniPower reads it as resetting Heart Gore's cooldown and raising damage by 20%. That makes the Assassin strongest in short fights, and Grobs puts cooldown reduction among a build's main priorities.
Skills and combos
OmniPower's Assassin is built around marks. Savage Sword, the spammable area attack, applies insignias to the target, Savage Fang applies five at once, and Insignia Explosion, one of the class's bread-and-butter skills, deals more damage the more the target carries. Heart Gore can only be used after a critical hit and restores MP; Flash Slice closes the gap and blinds; Shadow Strike puts the Assassin behind its target and stuns it; Ambush deals extra damage from behind; Throw Shadow Blade is a slowing ranged projectile that gains a gap closer at level five; Shadow Fall hits stunned targets and knocks them down; and Infiltrate, usable only after a dodge or in mid-flight, puts the Assassin behind the target and blinds it. Swift Contract raises combat speed (see Skills, Stigmas and Macros).
CrusherXGaming reduces the fantasy to appearing, deleting someone and disappearing: open from concealment with Ambush or Shadow Strike, chain Quick Slice and Flash Slice for burst, then leave with Shadow Step. He stresses that the damage is positional, delivered from behind the target in melee range by one of the squishiest characters on the field, so one missed dodge, bad angle or latency spike can lose the fight. He calls it a phenomenal second character but a rough first one.
Attacking from behind
Every class benefits from back attacks, according to the Fextralife wiki, but the Assassin depends on them. Grobs notes that it has a number of passives and effects that trigger only on hits from behind, so an Assassin that ignores positioning loses a lot of damage; its mobility makes getting back onto a target fairly easy. OmniPower places it in the rear flanking position, and SywoGG says it has to stay at the back of a boss to deal a good amount of damage, which is hard for a class that is also fragile (see Combat System).
Gear, ping and patience
SywoGG warns that the Assassin comes online late. It needs its stats, attack speed, buffs and Stigmas in place before it consistently outperforms easier damage classes such as the Ranger or Spiritmaster, so it takes patience, and other players tend to judge an Assassin more closely than most classes on its damage numbers. He still tells new players they can start on it, and calls it one of the most rewarding classes to master. Society Of Gaming adds that it is not an easy class: it is about timing, and a player with high ping should choose something else.
PvP
In PvP, Grobs says, the Assassin's mix of mobility, crowd control, invisibility and very high burst makes it very dangerous in duels and small fights, though match-ups matter because it cannot simply jump on any class and kill it. Large-scale PvP is harder: a squishy melee class has to put itself in danger to deal damage, so it must choose the right target and wait for an opening.
Society Of Gaming agrees that the Assassin excels in one-versus-one and small-scale PvP and is less useful than the ranged damage classes in the large battles of the Abyss, while its stealth remains valuable for escaping bad situations and in open-world fights. SywoGG ranks it among the top three classes for duels and for roaming the Abyss, and notes that in 10v10 PvP it has a hide skill whose cooldown resets when it defeats an enemy. In his tank comparison, Society Of Gaming names the Assassin and the Gladiator as the two classes that have excelled in duels since launch (see PvP).
Shadowstep and the March 2026 overhaul
NC's class overhaul of Mar 25, 2026 in Korea and Taiwan added a new Stigma skill for every class, and the Assassin's is Shadowstep. Creators' kits include a Shadow Step: OmniPower keeps it off his macro as a situational skill that lets him peel away from danger while granting stealth for a short time, and CrusherXGaming uses it to leave a fight after bursting a target. The same overhaul raised the Stigma slot limit to five, added Perfect Parry and Perfect Shield Block, and separated PvP and PvE damage calculations.
The Assassin and other classes
The Assassin is a reference point for other classes. EPIC PLK says the Ranger feels like an Assassin that has moved 30 meters back and picked up a bow, with the same rhythm of short attacks, quick reactions and constant movement, and SywoGG rates the two playstyles about equally good, with a completely different feel. Society Of Gaming compares the ninth class of Korea and Taiwan, the Brawler, most closely with the Assassin: fast, ping-dependent melee, with a Rage meter added.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Assassin have stealth in Aion 2? Yes. NC's presenters call stealth one of its key elements, and creators use it both to open fights from concealment and to escape.
What weapon does the Assassin use? Daggers; OmniPower describes them as dual daggers.
Do you have to attack from behind as an Assassin? To play it well, yes. Several of its passives and skills work only from behind, although every class gets some benefit from back attacks.
Is the Assassin good for beginners? Opinions differ. CrusherXGaming calls it a rough first character, while SywoGG says new players can start on it if they are patient while it comes online. It also needs low ping.
Is the Assassin good in PvP? In duels and small fights it is one of the most dangerous classes; in large battles the ranged classes are usually more useful.
What did the March 2026 overhaul add for the Assassin? A new Stigma skill, Shadowstep, in Korea and Taiwan on Mar 25, 2026.
Can I play an Assassin on the global version? Yes. It is one of the eight global classes, playable since Advanced Access opened on Sep 30, 2026 and free to everyone from Oct 5.
