Spiritmaster

The Spiritmaster of Aion 2, the name the global client uses for the class some older material calls the Elementalist: an orb-wielding summoner that fights beside fire, water, earth, wind and ancient spirits, with Command: Proxy, fears and damage over time, a debated solo reputation and strong sustained damage.

The Spiritmaster is the summoner of Aion 2, a ranged magic damage class that fights with orbs and elemental spirits. It is one of the eight launch classes, playable in Korea and Taiwan since Nov 19, 2025 and on the global servers since Advanced Access opened on Sep 30, 2026, ahead of the free-to-play launch on Oct 5; some of NC's older English material calls it the Elementalist. NC's first description of the class called it "optimized for solo play". As Grobs puts it, the class is not about summoning one pet and letting it do the work: its gameplay comes from combining the Spiritmaster's own abilities with its spirits. All the classes are compared on Classes.

Name

The class has gone by several English names. NC's English release of June 2025 called it the Spiritmaster; its release of Mar 25, 2026, which added the class's new Stigma, called it the Elementalist; and Hardcore Gamer's Summer Game Fest preview of June 2026 lists it as the Spirit Master, the name NC's global team gave the class at that event. The Fextralife wiki uses Elementalist, and CrusherXGaming warns that databases sometimes list the class under that name. The global client settled it when it went live on Sep 30, 2026: NC's global site lists the class as the Spiritmaster, written as one word, and NC's shop notice of the same day restricts the new Orb weapon skins to "Spiritmaster" players. Elementalist and Spirit Master are now names from earlier material.

On the global servers

The Spiritmaster is one of the eight classes of the global client. In Ruca777's all-classes showcase, uploaded on Sep 30, 2026 as Advanced Access opened, a level 30 Spiritmaster fights the same boss as the other seven classes in a dark red arena, with the full interface on screen.

CrusherXGaming's global tier list of Sep 28, 2026 puts the Spiritmaster alone at the top, in S+ tier. His reasons: with no heroic gear in the first season nobody outgears the content early, the spirits make solo leveling safe, and fears, silences and debuffs disrupt fights in the Abyss. XifanGG's list of the next day likewise puts all the ranged classes in S tier for large Abyss battles.

A bug, not a nerf, lay behind talk after the Launch Scale Test that the global Spiritmaster had been weakened, according to aLuckyRO. Testing on a dummy, he shows that the Ancient Spirit Stigma should trigger Elemental Fusion again every seven basic attacks at low levels but did not do so on the test client, while the skill descriptions matched the Taiwanese client's.

The spirits

On NC's global release preview livestream of Aug 7, 2026, a presenter describes the Spiritmaster as a class that summons elemental spirits to fight alongside the player, like a second pet dealing damage at its side. The spirits are class skills, separate from the collectable pets that every class can own and ride (see Pets and Mounts).

There are four elemental spirits, Water, Earth, Wind and Fire, and an additional Ancient Spirit. Grobs explains that each gives access to different effects, dealing area or single-target damage, healing or taunting, and that the Fire Spirit performs a special area attack the moment it is summoned. Rather than keeping the same spirit out, a Spiritmaster can cycle between them to trigger those attacks and apply different effects, while other abilities amplify or enhance the spirits. Society Of Gaming notes that the spirits attack the target automatically, a different way of using spirits from the original Aion's.

EPIC PLK, who tested the class in July 2026, describes the spirits by what they bring. Fire adds offensive pressure and a lot of area damage; Water helps with mana, so the Spiritmaster can keep casting; Earth is the tankier option; and Wind, his favorite for questing, adds single-target damage and critical hits while recovering health. He did not swap between all four every few seconds but picked the spirit that suited the situation and kept it, and valued having the choice. OmniPower's summons match: Fire deals damage, Wind deals damage and restores health, Water deals damage and restores MP, and Earth deals damage with a chance to taunt and pull aggro.

Skills and rotation

OmniPower's Spiritmaster opens by summoning the Ancient Spirit, the strongest in its kit, which grants a four-element status; Elemental Fusion can only be cast while that status is active. Cold Shock is the basic attack and Combustion the spammable area attack. His Joint Strike skills work through the summoned spirit, one dealing a type of damage that depends on which spirit is out and another applying damage over time while reducing the damage the Spiritmaster takes, and Dimensional Control, usable whenever a spirit is summoned, slows the target and restores MP. A second combo summons the Fire, Wind, Water and Earth spirits in turn, and his buffs end with a benediction that gives both the Spiritmaster and its spirit more damage, damage tolerance and health regeneration (see Skills, Stigmas and Macros).

The Ancient Spirit is where the Spiritmaster gets loud. EPIC PLK describes summoning it as the start of a damage window: the bigger casts come out, area effects land everywhere, and for a few seconds the player can unload everything, a rhythm he prefers to pressing buttons at maximum speed all the time.

CrusherXGaming describes spirits that hold enemies' attention while the Spiritmaster stacks damage over time with skills such as Cold Shock and Combustion, a skill that drains life back to the caster, and fear-based area effects that scatter a whole group, which he calls devastating in PvP. He names two catches: damage falls off sharply the moment the summons are down, so spirit upkeep is constant, and in group content tracking pets, debuffs and positioning at once gives the class the heaviest mental load on the roster.

Command: Proxy

NC's class overhaul of Mar 25, 2026 in Korea and Taiwan gave the class, named Elementalist in that release, a new Stigma skill, Command: Proxy. Society Of Gaming compares it to Spirit Sub from the original Aion: half of the damage the Spiritmaster takes goes to its spirit instead. OmniPower opens his buff rotation with it for the damage tolerance it adds, and Society Of Gaming credits it with making the class feel less squishy than the Ranger or Sorcerer. The same overhaul raised the Stigma slot limit to five and added Perfect Parry and Perfect Shield Block.

Solo play

Solo play is the class's reputation. EPIC PLK found it comfortable from the start: ranged, with a summon working beside it and freedom to move and reposition. In one solo dungeon, at the proper level and not overgeared, a boss killed him; he switched to the tanky spirit, stayed further back, tried again and finished the dungeon alone, where on most other classes he would have left and waited for a party.

Society Of Gaming declares the Spiritmaster the clear winner for solo play against the Sorcerer: its spirits act as personal tanks and damage dealers, making farming and progression smoother and safer, and the class is very self-sufficient. He adds that it did not feel good after launch, and that the developers have greatly improved both its damage and the fluidity of its play in the months since. CrusherXGaming goes further and calls it the strongest solo class in the game.

SywoGG disputes that reputation. He describes a more survivable mage with a lower damage ceiling than the Sorcerer on paper, although in practice mechanics that one-shot a Sorcerer also one-shot a Spiritmaster, and its better self-sustain and easier handling often let it do good damage even in high-tier content. But he calls the idea that it is the best class for solo play a myth: solo content from leveling to the Ascension Trial and daily dungeons is trivial for every class, other classes do it better, and other classes also do better in harder solo content such as the Nightmare dungeons. He suspects the belief is a memory of the original Aion, where the Spiritmaster really was among the best solo classes (see Nightmare and Ascension Trial).

Damage in groups

Grobs finds the Spiritmaster especially strong in long boss fights: it does not burst like the Assassin and can fall behind when a fight is short, but once all its damage is running its sustained output becomes very competitive. EPIC PLK, who has played group content alongside high-level Spiritmasters, says they hit really hard, and Society Of Gaming rates it and the Sorcerer as usually the top damage classes, with the lead between them changing from patch to patch.

PvP

In PvP the Spiritmaster has an unusual set of tools. Grobs singles out the Earth Spirit's taunt, which forces another player to attack it; with enough cooldown reduction and careful spirit cycling, a good Spiritmaster can keep an enemy almost permanently taunt-locked. The class needs time to set up, though. Allowed to start a fight on its own terms it is very hard to deal with, but if another class jumps it before it is ready, recovering is much harder.

Society Of Gaming finds the Spiritmaster annoying to beat in duels, with fears and a spirit always running around, though he agrees with players who rank it a step below the Sorcerer one-on-one. In large-scale fights in the Abyss and the open world it usually has the advantage, thanks to area fears, disruption, spirits that break up coordination and a better ability to move and survive under focus. SywoGG adds that it is the best damage class for players with high ping, because most of its damage comes from the spirits (see PvP).

Spiritmaster or Sorcerer

Society Of Gaming's comparison ends with a slight advantage to the Spiritmaster, which he finds more robust and more mobile than the Sorcerer while matching it for damage, and which feels especially powerful while leveling, melting everything around it. Both remain ranged magic damage dealers, and neither is anywhere near as sturdy as a Templar or Gladiator.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Elementalist the same class as the Spiritmaster? Yes. NC's English release of March 2026 and the Fextralife wiki use Elementalist, and Hardcore Gamer's June 2026 preview uses Spirit Master; the global client, live since Sep 30, 2026, uses Spiritmaster, as NC's June 2025 release did.

Can I play a Spiritmaster on the global version? Yes. It is one of the eight global classes, playable since Advanced Access opened on Sep 30, 2026 and free to everyone from Oct 5.

How many spirits does the Spiritmaster have? Four elemental spirits, Fire, Water, Earth and Wind, plus the Ancient Spirit, its strongest.

Is the Spiritmaster the best solo class? Opinions differ. NC described it as "optimized for solo play", and EPIC PLK, Society Of Gaming and CrusherXGaming all find it very strong solo, but SywoGG calls the idea a myth because every class handles Aion 2's solo content. CrusherXGaming's global tier list of Sep 28, 2026 still ranks it first, partly for its safe solo leveling.

What does Command: Proxy do? It is the Stigma skill added on Mar 25, 2026. Creators describe it sending part of the damage the Spiritmaster takes to its spirit (half, according to Society Of Gaming) and adding damage tolerance.

Is the Spiritmaster good with high ping? SywoGG thinks it is the best damage class for high ping, because most of its damage comes from spirits rather than precisely timed key presses.

Is the Spiritmaster squishy? Less so than the other ranged damage classes, according to Society Of Gaming, but it is not a tank, and SywoGG notes that mechanics which one-shot a Sorcerer also one-shot a Spiritmaster.
