Elyos

The Elyos, one of the two playable factions of Aion 2: the radiant, winged Daevas of Elysea in the south of Atreia, who start in Poeta, play on their own servers and fight the Asmodians in the Abyss.

The Elyos are one of the two playable factions of Aion 2: the Daevas of Elysea, the southern half of Atreia, and the rivals of the Asmodians in the north. As Ynoki explains their origin, the survivors of the Cataclysm who lived on the sunlit half of the shattered world came to see themselves as the chosen, beautiful children of Aion. Fextralife describes an elegant, angelic race that grew radiant from centuries of sunlight and arrogant with it, looking down on the Asmodians (Fextralife). Elyos characters start in Poeta and move on to Verteron. The history both factions share is on Story and Lore.

Origins

In the original game's history, as Azphel retells it, the Cataclysm that broke the Tower of Eternity also split the Empyrean Lords. The Seraphim Lords, led by Lady Ariel, went south; the Shedim Lords, led by Lord Asphel, went north. The Seraphim blamed the Shedim's refusal to make peace for the disaster, and the Shedim blamed the Seraphim's weakness and blind trust. The five Seraphim Lords, Ariel of light, Vaizel of freedom, Kaisinel of illusion, Nezekan of justice and Yustiel of life, named their people the Elyos of Elysea.

Fextralife's portrait of the faction is of a proud, idealistic people who believe they are the true inheritors of Aion's grace, see the Asmodians as corrupted or "fallen", and live in a highly structured society with a divine aesthetic. It gives them a combat identity of refined, holy magic, agile melee and strong support, although in Aion 2 both factions have the same classes and skills. NC's sponsored PC Gamer feature frames the conflict as "the light-aligned Elyos" against "the desire-driven Asmodians" (PC Gamer, sponsored content created with NC). According to Fextralife, the developers wanted to make the two sides more distinct than a simple angels-and-demons split (Fextralife).

Appearance and what differs in play

Fextralife lists radiant, angelic features, pale or light skin, bright feathered wings, often golden or white, and elegant armor and architecture as the Elyos look. Characters of both factions are built in the same creator, with over 200 adjustable features (see Character Creation).

In play the differences are small. Ynoki points out that the factions speak different languages, audible when skills are cast, and start with different wings: white for the Elyos, black for the Asmodians. Later on, all gear, skins and wings can be used by either faction, and skills are the same on both sides (see Classes).

Pets follow geography rather than faction. An Elyos character leveling through Elysea naturally collects the creatures native to its bright regions, but any player can eventually unlock the same creatures by visiting their regions or trading for them (see Pets and Mounts).

The Elyos campaign

The Elyos campaign, in Ynoki's summary, is framed around divine right, duty and perseverance. The Elyos see themselves as the uncorrupted children of Aion, their story casts the Asmodians as aggressive invaders who destroyed the world order, and early quests are about cleansing corruption, restoring balance and defending the homeland.

In the story's back history, as Azphel pieces it together, Ariel, with Kaisinel and Yustiel, raised a great Bulwark at the edge of the Eltnen desert to stop the Balaur, and the exhausted lords vanished. Sanctum, the Elyos capital, was moved high above Heiron inside the Bulwark, where those within still live in peace with plenty of Aether.

The player starts outside it, a captive freed from a Balaur fortress in Poeta by the Legion of Dawn and stripped of Daeva powers. With the help of a guardian Elim, the player enters a lake cave used for ascension, hears a voice calling them "my fragment", passes the lake guardian's test and ascends again.

The launch story follows the legion and the hermit Pernos in search of the Empyrean Lords' cores, and wins Kaisinel's. Its last dream trial sends the Elyos player into the enemy's history: to Altgard, to fight a nightmare of the Asmodian lord Zikel, and to learn that Zikel imprisoned the Dragon Lord Fafnir while Kaisinel and the other lords gave their lives to raise the Bulwark. The next goal is Eltnen and the core of Yustiel (see Elysea).

Servers, parties and the war

Elyos and Asmodians play on separate servers, a change NC made "to improve faction balance" (NC, Jun 4, 2025). They meet as enemies in the Abyss and in each other's lands through rifts.

In Korea and Taiwan the line has blurred since launch. From Mar 11, 2026 Elyos and Asmodian characters can form PvE parties together, with limited cross-faction chat (NC), and from Mar 25, 2026 the Chaotic Abyss divides players into West and East forces by server instead of by race, while Spacetime Rift stays race-based (NC). See Chaotic Abyss.

The global version brings cross-faction grouping from the start. On Aug 7, 2026 NC's team said Elyos and Asmodians will be able to party up for Expeditions and other dungeons, so players need not feel pressured to follow a friend to the other side.

Frequently asked questions

Are the Elyos the good side? Each campaign presents its own faction as the wronged and righteous one. The Elyos story treats the Asmodians as invaders; the Asmodian story treats the Elyos as arrogant deserters.

Where do Elyos characters start? In Poeta, before moving on to Verteron. Eltnen was added in Korea and Taiwan on Jul 1, 2026.

Do the Elyos have different classes or skills? No. Both factions share classes, skills and, eventually, gear and wings. Skill voice lines are in a different language, and Elyos wings start white.

Can Elyos play with Asmodians? In dungeons, yes: in Korea and Taiwan since Mar 11, 2026, and on the global version from launch. Servers remain separate.

Who were the Elyos Empyrean Lords? In the original history, Ariel, Vaizel, Kaisinel, Nezekan and Yustiel. Kaisinel's and Yustiel's cores drive the Elyos launch story.
