Asmodians

The Asmodians, one of the two playable factions of Aion 2: the hardy Daevas of Asmodae in the north of Atreia, who start in Ishalgen, play on their own servers, and whose feral look from the original game was toned down for the sequel.

The Asmodians are one of the two playable factions of Aion 2: the Daevas of Asmodae, the northern half of Atreia, and the rivals of the Elyos in the south. In Ynoki's account, they survived on the harsh, dark half of the shattered world where the sun barely reaches, evolved claws, glowing eyes and a rugged build to endure it, and developed a fierce, resilient culture forged in hardship. Fextralife adds that they are often simply called Demons, yet are known as brave and loyal, "respected by their friends and feared by their enemies" (Fextralife). Asmodian characters start in Ishalgen and move on to Altgard. The history both factions share is on Story and Lore.

Origins

In the original game's history, as Azphel retells it, the Shedim Lords who went north after the Cataclysm were Asphel, lord of shadow, Zikel of destruction, Lumiel of wisdom, Marchutan of fate and Triniel of death, and they named their people the Asmodians of Asmodae. Their half of the world was plunged into darkness. To survive it the Asmodians had to become strong quickly, and their bodies changed: hands and feet became claws, manes grew along their backs, and their eyes glowed red in anger. Asphel, fearing his people would become mere animals, had a new capital built, Pandaemonium.

Fextralife describes a people whose centuries in shadow left them pale, with eyes adapted to the dark and an eerie glow; tough, loyal and survival-driven, highly tribal and valuing strength and unity, less "holy" and more practical and brutal than their cousins. Its account of their grievance is simple: the Asmodians believe the Elyos abandoned them to die. It gives them a combat identity of ferocious melee, dark magic and heavier armor, although in Aion 2 both factions share the same classes and skills. NC's sponsored PC Gamer feature calls them "the desire-driven Asmodians" (PC Gamer, sponsored content created with NC).

A softer look in Aion 2

According to Fextralife, the developers wanted to move the factions away from a simple angels-and-demons split, and the Asmodians "in particular, have been redesigned to feel more grounded and interesting" (Fextralife).

That redesign divided the community. Ynoki recalls that the original Asmodians were genuinely distinct, with sharp claws, a dark mane, piercing red eyes and a feral build. In Aion 2 those traits have largely been toned down or removed in character creation, so Asmodians look far more like the Elyos, which he calls a sad detail for veterans. Sliders can still add grit to a face, but the monster-like edge is missing by default (see Character Creation).

In play the remaining differences are small. Asmodians start with black wings where Elyos have white, and cast their skills in a different language, but later on all gear, skins and wings can be worn by either faction, and the skills are the same (see Classes).

The Asmodian campaign

Switching to the Asmodians, Ynoki says, turns the story into an underdog tale of survival, greed and bitter betrayal. The Asmodians remember history differently, see the Elyos as arrogant, pampered hypocrites who left them to freeze in the dark, and fight not out of holy grace but because their people had to claw their way out of hell.

The player begins as a human in a mercenary company hired to steal a red crystal from the Dragon Lord Fafnir's fortress in Ishalgen. A traitor in the company's ranks leaves almost everyone dead, and the player survives only because a Daeva searching for the same crystal pulls them out (see Asmodae).

The trail ends at the resting place of Zikel's core, shielded by a barrier that Zikel and a hundred of his elite Arkans made with their own sacrifice through a blood oath. The Balaur never broke through; Zikel had accepted his own extinction to keep the core safe for the future of Atreia.

The launch story's last dream trial sends the Asmodian player into the enemy's history: to Verteron, to fight a nightmare of the Elyos lord Kaisinel, and to learn how the Empyrean Lords faced extinction. The next goal is Morheim and the core of Marchutan, Lord of Fate.

Servers, parties and the war

Elyos and Asmodians play on separate servers, which NC introduced "to improve faction balance" (NC, Jun 4, 2025). They fight in the Abyss, where each faction has its own base, and in each other's lands through rifts (see Spacetime Rift).

In Korea and Taiwan, Elyos and Asmodians have been able to form PvE parties since Mar 11, 2026 (NC). On Mar 25, 2026 NC added the Chaotic Abyss, which splits players into West and East forces at server level "regardless of race alignment", while Spacetime Rift keeps race-based matchmaking (NC). See Chaotic Abyss.

On the global version, dungeon matching can group players of both factions and from different servers. NC's team showed a setting that limits matching to one's own faction, for players who want to stay traditional or keep to role-play.

Frequently asked questions

Are the Asmodians the evil faction? Not in their own story. The Asmodian campaign is about survival and a grievance against the Elyos, whom they believe abandoned them, and Fextralife describes them as brave and loyal.

Do Asmodians still have claws and red eyes? Much less than in the original. Ynoki notes that the claws, mane and red eyes were largely toned down or removed in Aion 2's character creation.

Where do Asmodian characters start? In Ishalgen, before moving on to Altgard. Morheim was added in Korea and Taiwan on Jul 1, 2026.

What color are Asmodian wings? Black at the start. Later, any wings can be used by either faction.

Can Asmodians play with Elyos? In dungeons, yes, and a setting can restrict matching to one's own faction. Servers stay separate.

Who were the Asmodian Empyrean Lords? In the original history, Asphel, Zikel, Lumiel, Marchutan and Triniel. Zikel's core ends the Asmodian launch story and Marchutan's is the next goal.
