Pets and Mounts

15:43 Pets in Aion 2 are collectable creatures that follow a player as companions and also serve as the game's mounts. Most are won by hunting the monsters of Atreia, and collecting and analyzing them adds permanent stats through a system called Genus Insight. On NC's global preview stream of Aug 7, 2026 a presenter promises "over 200 pets to collect from the start" of the global version and adds that "the pets for us are also serving as your mount". NC's first gameplay reveal of June 2025 introduced "a unique system where defeated monsters can be tamed and used as mounts". Premium pets sold in the shop are covered on Cash Shop and Cosmetics, and the step-by-step how-to (transformation, Empathy Candy, the Black Cloud Merchant, where to hunt) on Pets Guide.

Pets as mounts

15:13 A pet walks beside its owner until it is ridden. On NC's dungeon stream of Sep 4, 2026 the presenters ask how a Gladiator's pet becomes a mount, since "the pets are a mount system, too", and the answer is simply to "pop on it". Hardcore Gamer's Summer Game Fest preview of June 2026 compares the pets to Final Fantasy XIV's minions or Lost Ark's pets, and notes that each mount has its own running and idle animations. NC's June 2026 press release describes "a diverse pet system (that doubles as a traditional mount system)".

25:49 Pets can be ridden inside dungeons in Korea and Taiwan since NC's Chapter 1 update of Jul 1, 2026, and the dungeon stream shows it: the party mounts up between fights, can glide on a pet, and falls off as soon as it takes damage, since mounting is only possible out of combat.

53:22 Pets carry players into PvP as well. In a 5v5 arena match on NC's PvP stream of Sep 11, 2026 the presenters point out players "using your pets" to cross the large map. Fextralife's general information page (updated January 2026) says that flight suits short hops while mounts are for long journeys; see Flight and Wings.

14:03 New players meet the double role early. When TheLazyPeon picked his first pet in the Launch Scale Test, he was surprised to find "it's both a pet and a mount", and rode it straight across the open plains.

Hunting pets

17:20 Almost any creature can join the collection. Asked how players collect 200 pets, the preview stream's presenter answers that "almost anything that you see in the world is going to be something that can be a mount or a pet": players go out, "kill them, and you'll farm them up".

3:57 EPIC PLK's pre-launch guide of August 2026 explains the mechanism: killing the same type of monster gives soul fragments, and enough fragments unlock that monster as a pet. He advises killing the mobs on the way while leveling rather than running round them, since pets give permanent stat bonuses shared across a player's characters on the server. Fan translations of the Korean patch notes record that in the first week after launch NC let every player who contributed to a boss kill receive a pet soul, and then fixed a drop-rate error that change had caused.

7:48 Trunx Official, a newcomer to Aion who played 12 hours of the global Launch Scale Test, describes the steps on the global client: a creature met in the wild has to drop its soul bond five times to be unlocked, and 25 more soul bonds unlock gliding for that mount.

15:01 Some pets come from specific places. The Gladiator's pet on the dungeon stream is "specific to Fire Temple", a developer explains; it can also be farmed in the Abyss, but only the Fire Temple offers it safely, since in the Abyss "there's going to be people flying around murdering you".

18:03 Rifts into the other faction's territory are another hunting ground. They open about every three hours, and a player who goes through has about an hour on the other side "to farm pets, to PvP", with creatures that live only on that map.

4:53 Pets are not tied to a faction. Ynoki explains that with hundreds of models in the world, a player of either faction can eventually unlock the same creatures by visiting the regions where they live or by trading for them. Elyos naturally start with the fauna of Elysea and Asmodians with the darker creatures of Asmodae, and shop mounts are available to both.

Genus Insight

Collecting pets feeds Genus Insight, a set of stat boards. At the Korean launch Genus Insight and pet ownership applied per character. NC's update of Jan 7, 2026 made both server-wide: Genus Insight now uses the highest value reached among a player's characters on the same server, and pet levels are added up across all of them, which NC said cuts out repeated progression on alternate characters.

7:11 Sen's Gladiator guide of July 2026, recorded on the Taiwanese servers, calls pets "very important" for Genus Insight. Analyzing a Genus board rolls a stat into each slot, unlocking further tiers; a good roll can be locked before rolling again; and each Genus type uses its own color of gem, with costs rising the more tiers have been unlocked. He goes for orange, legendary results first.

18:47 xMontu's Gladiator guide of August 2026 calls it "a super important system that you want to make sure you prioritize and not mess up", and lays out targets for each of the nine slots on the five Genus Insight boards, starting with Smite of at least 2% in slots three and nine, plus a separate special board.

Auto-loot and sharing

NC announced at its SUMMER FESTA showcase in June 2026 that Auto-Loot would be made available for all pets and that special-grade costumes and pets would become shareable across a whole server in Korea and Taiwan. The fan site aion2hub, which translates the Korean patch notes, lists purchasable pet auto-loot in the update of Jul 29, 2026, and on Aug 5, 2026 a Pet Auto-Loot Ticket limited to two purchases per character per month.

16:42 The global version gets the feature too. On the preview stream a presenter lists "the pet autoloot system" among things NC is bringing to the global launch: a player's pet will go and collect loot from defeated monsters.

It is running on the live servers. When a cloud outage took down 21 European servers on Oct 8, 2026, NC's compensation included "1 day of pet auto loot for users with a pet auto loot activated" on those servers, beside a day of Membership for members, which shows auto-loot on the global version as a service that runs for a period once activated. NC's global notices up to Oct 12, 2026 do not state its price; Anders put the Korean price at around 3 million Kina for 30 days (Cash Shop and Cosmetics).

Shop, pack and event pets

16:47 Not every pet is hunted. On the dungeon stream a presenter explains that every pet in the party was "found within the world" except two, "ours are shop pets". NC's business model for Korea and Taiwan lists pets among its cosmetic items, and cosmetic releases have included Babymeow and Aristomeow (Mar 25, 2026) and pets in the fromis_9 Collaboration.

Launch rewards have also been pets. Korean and Taiwanese pre-registration gave a Pet Selection Box with Zaif or Papis. For the global version, NC first promised players who signed up for its newsletter Pagati plus one pet of their choice from Konutin Worker, Papis, Black Smoke Murute and Silver Blade Rotan, and on Sep 30, 2026 extended the pre-registration and Steam wishlist rewards to everyone: every player who creates an account and logs in before the maintenance of Dec 1, 2026 (11:30 PM PT) receives an "Advance: Pet Chest" by in-game mail, with Pet: Pagati and a choice of Papis, Silver Blade Rotan, Konutin Worker or Black Smoke Murute, and the mail must be claimed by Dec 8 (NC). The Ultimate Founder's Pack ($99.99) includes the Black Dragon pet.

The global shop opened with pets of its own on Sep 30, 2026. Chonky Hamster and White Bunny cost $19.99 each, can be bought once per server by characters of level 10 or higher, and are on sale until the maintenance of Oct 28 (NC). The Tsenka Merchants sell Pagati for 2,000,000 Kina, and the Season 1 Daeva Pass shop offers Pet: Swift Lugi for pass coins (NC; NC). Twitch Drops add a companion of a different kind: watching participating streams for ten hours between Oct 5 and Oct 16 earns Adorable Young Elim (Shoulder) (NC on Steam). NC's community contest Beauty of Atreia gives the week of Oct 19 to 25 to screenshots of pets (NC on Steam).

A lower limit on global

17:28 NC is slowing pet progression for the global version. On the preview stream a presenter says that at the global launch "we're going to move down from max level of five to three", to "slow that down" for players who know pet farming, without saying which pet level the maximum applies to. GamesBeat's report of Aug 25, 2026 describes it as "a reduction in the per-player pet cap". NC's written notices had not confirmed the new figure as of Oct 12, 2026, a week after the free launch; in Korea, Gameple's guide of January 2026 describes pet understanding growing to a maximum level of 5 (Gameple).

The first global testers liked the system. S4G's Kevin Link, who played the Launch Scale Test, wrote that he really liked the pet system, although it is "the most complex system in the entire game" (S4G), and on the first day of Advanced Access mein-mmo counted the pet collection among the activities that give the game variety (mein-mmo).

Pets and server transfers

A pet collection belongs to a server, so the transfers that open on Oct 14, 2026 have rules for it. According to NC's notices of Oct 9, every pet and Genus Crystal a player owns moves with the transferring characters and is combined with what the account has on the destination server, pet levels, collection level and collection rewards included, and all of it is removed from the old server: characters left behind can no longer summon those pets. Genus Insight is the exception that needs a choice. A player who already has characters on the destination picks either the Insight of the old server or that of the new one, and the old server's Insight is reset whichever is chosen.

Shop pets follow the same route. If the same special pet already exists on the destination, the player keeps the one there and receives a Pet Reward Ticket, with which Customer Support refunds the pet bought on the old server; pets from the Pass Shop are refunded in Pass Coins. The ticket is valid until the maintenance of Nov 24, 2026 (PST) (Servers).

Pets and the Spiritmaster

27:52 One class brings a second companion. The Spiritmaster summons elemental spirits to fight, which the preview stream describes as "kind of like a second pet by your side that's dealing damage", on top of the pet a player rides.

Pet list and mount list

Every pet is also a mount, so the pet list is the mount list. NC has published no full list. KeenGamer's guide of Oct 11, 2026 counts 200 collectible pets in five groups: six Special pets from shops, passes and chests, and four kinds hunted for their souls: Cogni (mostly humanoid enemies), Fera (wildlife and beasts), Natura (elemental spirits and plants) and Varian (golems, mutants and constructs). Some pets' Genus Insight bonuses help riding: KeenGamer lists +1 Mount Ground Speed on Papis, Armadon and Tog, and a cheaper sprint on Silver Blade Rotan.

Pet transformation

Pet transformation turns your character into its equipped pet for a while. Destructoid's steps (Oct 3, 2026):

1. Raise a regular pet's Insight to level 3: 5 souls unlock it, 25 more reach level 2 and 75 more level 3. Special pets such as the Black Dragon cannot transform.
2. Equip the pet.
3. Use an Empathy Candy: each gives a five-minute transformation, with extra range and movement speed.

Empathy Candy comes from the Shugo Festival shop, at 20 Centuryroot Tokens, and from festival achievements; the tokens come from the Shugo Festival mini-games (Daily Dungeons and Shugo Festa).

Frequently asked questions

Are pets and mounts the same thing in Aion 2? Yes. Every Aion 2 pet can follow a player as a companion and be ridden as a mount.

How do you get pets? In Aion 2, mostly by killing monsters: defeating the same kind of creature gives soul fragments that unlock it as a pet. Others come from bosses, the shop, Founder's Packs and events.

Is there a list of all pets and mounts? NC has published none. Guide sites count 200 collectible pets in five groups (Special, Cogni, Fera, Natura and Varian), and every one of them is also a mount; examples are under Pet list and mount list above.

How do you transform into a pet in Aion 2? Raise a regular pet's Insight to level 3, equip it and use an Empathy Candy, which gives five minutes in the pet's form. Empathy Candy comes from the Shugo Festival shop.

How many pets are there? Aion 2 has more than 200 pets at the global launch, according to NC.

Which pets do global players get for free? Every Aion 2 player who creates an account and logs in before the Dec 1, 2026 maintenance gets the Advance: Pet Chest by mail: Pagati plus one of Papis, Silver Blade Rotan, Konutin Worker or Black Smoke Murute. Twitch Drops add the shoulder companion Adorable Young Elim for ten hours of watching between Oct 5 and 16, 2026.

Is the global pet limit lower than Korea's? NC said on its August 2026 stream that pet progression will be slowed with a lower limit, and GamesBeat reported a reduced pet cap, but NC's notices for Aion 2's global version had not given the figure as of Oct 12, 2026.

What is Genus Insight? In Aion 2, Genus Insight is a set of stat boards fed by collected pets. Analyzing a board rolls stats into its slots, and the bonuses apply permanently.

Are pets shared between characters? In Aion 2's Korean and Taiwanese version, yes since Jan 7, 2026: Genus Insight and pet ownership are server-wide, and pet levels are combined across characters.

Can you ride pets in dungeons? In Aion 2's Korean and Taiwanese version since Jul 1, 2026, out of combat; taking damage knocks the rider off.

Does the global version have pet auto-loot? Yes. NC said on its August 2026 stream that pet auto-loot was coming to Aion 2's global launch, and its outage compensation of Oct 8, 2026 gave a day of pet auto-loot to players who had it activated, so it is live as a timed service.

Do pets transfer when I change servers in Aion 2? Yes. NC's notices of Oct 9, 2026 say all pets and Genus Crystals move with the transferring characters and are combined with those on the destination server, and are removed from the old server. For Genus Insight you choose the old server's or the new one's.

What happens if I own the same shop pet on both servers? You keep the pet on the destination server and receive a Pet Reward Ticket; Customer Support refunds the pet bought on the old server if you ask before the ticket expires at the Nov 24, 2026 maintenance.

How long are Chonky Hamster and White Bunny on sale? Until the maintenance of Oct 28, 2026. Aion 2's global shop sells each for US$19.99, once per server, to characters of level 10 or higher.

Can I buy a pet for Kina in Aion 2? Yes. On the global version the Tsenka Merchants sell Pagati for 2,000,000 Kina, according to NC's product notice of Sep 30, 2026; most pets, though, are unlocked by hunting monsters for their souls.
