Fire Temple
Aion 2's reimagined Fire Temple: a three-star Expedition with Exploration, Conquest and Hard modes, a route of lava and patrolling elites, three bosses ending with Kromede and her flame walls, its loot, and what changes on the global version.
The Fire Temple is an Expedition dungeon in Aion 2, a rebuilt version of the fan-favorite instance of the original Aion, with new boss mechanics, layouts and cinematics. On the global version it unlocks in Exploration mode at level 35, after Krao Cave at 20 and Urugugu Canyon at 28, and its Conquest mode opens at 45. Its final boss is Kromede, whose flame walls kill more players than anything else in the dungeon, and NC's own presenters count her fight among their favorite encounters in the game. The wider dungeon system is described on Dungeons.

A classic reimagined
When NC revealed Aion 2's dungeons in its first Aion2NIGHT broadcast of May 29, 2025, it singled out the Fire Temple, a fan favorite from the original game, as "fully reimagined" with new boss mechanics, dungeon layouts and cinematic elements (NC, Jun 4, 2025). At the Aion2NIGHT livestream of Aug 8, 2025 the developers played it live with four of the eight classes and fought Kromede; NC's release describes the dungeon as a hallmark of the original Aion (NC, Aug 12, 2025).
The final fight opens with a cinematic in which Kromede breaks through a glass wall. In NC's Dungeon Live Gameplay Showcase of Sep 4, 2026 the hosts explain that there is a lore reason for fighting these bosses: the dungeons add to the story told in the main quests (see Story and Lore).
Modes and requirements
Like every Expedition, the Fire Temple has two modes. Exploration is a guided run in which a Shugo helper teaches the mechanics, and NC's presenters suggest picking up a weapon there first; Conquest, without helpers, is the main mode at maximum level and opens at 45, so it was not part of the level-37 Launch Scale Test of Sep 17 and 18, 2026. For global season 1 NC has also removed Heroic gear: the Fire Temple drops only its regular weapons, which the team says is meant to slow the pace of progression, and crafted Heroic gear is absent that season too.
The stream sorts Expeditions into one-, two- and three-star tiers, and the Fire Temple belongs to the third, where the presenters say the difficulty "steps up". They recommend working up through the tiers, beginning with Krao Cave at around 800 item level, but add that a player who reaches 2,200 item level is free to farm the Fire Temple directly.
On the Korean and Taiwanese servers, RedCloud found the listed 2,200 item level optimistic. In his Conquest guide of December 2025 he says groups rarely accepted players below about 2,500, though a confident group could make an attempt from 2,400.
The Korean patch notes of Dec 16, 2025, in the Fextralife wiki's fan translation, added a Hard difficulty to Krao Cave, Draupnir, Urugugu Canyon and Bakron's Floating Island and scheduled it for the Temple of Fire and the Savage Horn cave at the maintenance of Dec 24. On Hard the Temple of Fire's two mid-bosses have a 10% chance of Unique gear and 0.5% of Hero gear, and its final boss 20% and 1%, against 3.75 to 5% and 0.25% for the mid-bosses on Normal; ranking buffs do not apply on Hard (Patch Notes, Fextralife).
The route
The temple is a gauntlet of fire. Red circles on the ground mark where attacks will land, and players either dodge them or, with good timing, perfectly parry them (see Combat System). Between pulls the party can ride its mounts, although taking damage knocks a rider off. As the party pushes on it unlocks respawn points marked on the map, so a fallen player need not walk back from the entrance.
An elite monster patrols the halls, and the presenters warn that it can tear through a party. The same creature is one of the Fire Temple's mounts: one of the streamers rides it, and they note that the pet can also be farmed in the Abyss, where other players make the hunt far more dangerous (Pets and Mounts).
RedCloud's route explains why most Korean and Taiwanese groups rush. The patrolling elite has a very wide circle of detection rather than the forward-facing cone of ordinary monsters, and a player who meets it alone usually dies. Two optional coolant switches, one on each side, stop the fire that rains from the sky near the first boss; turning them off means jumping down and standing in flame, and many groups skip them, since the first boss only adds one more thing to dodge. Certain rooms act as reset spots that send pursuing monsters back.
The bosses
Every boss carries a stagger bar under its health bar, and classes fill it at different rates. A staggered boss gives the party about five seconds of free damage, with a skill that can be cast only during that window. RedCloud times his group's staggers to cancel a boss's biggest attacks.
The first boss, Black Smoke Marute, has a frontal attack, projectiles thrown in random directions and a circular area attack that grows three times, so the tank can hold him to one side. Small red circles of flame on the floor explode when approached, and a forward dash is followed by a thrown rock. A stagger timed to his wide area attack cancels it, and RedCloud rates him an easy boss.
The second boss, Red Spark Ignis, drops pools of flame under players, lashes out and throws burning skulls. He dashes at each player in turn, so the party spreads out, and his one dangerous move is a huge area attack that players survive only by standing close to him.
Kromede dashes to whichever player stands furthest away, stuns anyone caught by her rectangular stomp and hits hard at anyone who lingers in front of her. After a stagger phase she moves to the center of the room and every party member is shadowed by a clone with a wide frontal attack, which RedCloud says must be dodged at all costs.
Her flame wall kills more players than anything else in the dungeon, especially those with high latency. Clerics and classes with an immunity skill can negate much of its damage by walking through it; RedCloud, playing on about 130 ms, dodges early into the tail of the wall so that his roll clears it. Every flame wall is followed by arrows that Kromede fires into the sky and that rain down on the party, which players answer by dodging once and running in a circle apart from one another.
NC's presenter calls the Kromede fight really well designed and one of his favorites, and the moment he started tailoring his character to a dungeon: after being hit repeatedly, he added movement speed to his gear to make the flame walls easier to dodge.
Healers prepare too. Each skill has three nodes that can be customized as it levels, and the stream's Cleric puts a debuff removal on his heal, because players hit by the temple's mechanics are set on fire (see Cleric and Skills, Stigmas and Macros).
Loot
RedCloud lists the Conquest reward cube on the Korean and Taiwanese servers in December 2025: a Heroic ring that is very hard to get, the dungeon's weapons, which are what most players farm it for and which include extendable weapons for melee classes, strong accessories and a matching armor set. On the global version the Heroic variants are absent in season 1 (Gear Progression).
Kromede also yields a set of wings. Each kill drops a feather, and enough feathers craft her wings, though a lucky player can receive the whole wings as a drop; NC's presenter says the Kromede wings mark a player who has farmed the fight (Flight and Wings).
The fan translations of the Korean patch notes record several loot changes. On Nov 21, 2025, two days after launch, the drop rate of Unique equipment from the Odyle Energy Cube in the Temple of Fire (Conquest) was slightly reduced; on Nov 22 final boss equipment was removed from the mid-bosses' drop lists; and on Dec 16 Equipment Change Tickets were added to Krao Cave, Urugugu Canyon and the Temple of Fire, letting a player turn one dungeon weapon into another from the same dungeon with two tickets and 1,000,000 Kina (Patch Notes, Fextralife). Rewards are taken from the weekly Expedition allowance, which NC raised from 14 to 21 on May 13, 2026 (NC, May 13, 2026), and since Jul 1, 2026 in Korea and Taiwan they are claimed with Odyle Energy rather than tickets (NC, Jul 6, 2026).
The Fire Temple as Korea's Ordeal
In Korea and Taiwan the temple gained a second life in September 2026. NC's update notes of Sep 23 replaced Bakron's Floating Island with the Fire Temple as the dungeon of the Ordeal (시련), the Chapter 1 mode in which players set their own difficulty. It needs level 50 and item level 4,800, and the party builds its difficulty from four traits: a time limit and a revival limit of up to three stages each, up to eight stages of boss enhancement and up to two of weakened characters, for a total of 4 to 16. Each difficulty cleared pays Tokens of Overcoming once a week, reset on Wednesdays, spent in the Expedition exchange shop on items such as resurrection stones, manastones and an enhancement stone box (NC; Expedition Dungeons). The Sep 30 notes fixed a jump by the first boss whose landing did not match its warning area (NC). None of this has been announced for the global servers.
The Fire Temple on the global version
The temple is open on the global servers, in Exploration from level 35 and Conquest from 45, since Advanced Access began on Sep 30, 2026; free players arrived on Oct 5. The global test client listed it at 2,100 item level instead of Korea's 2,200, EUTOPIA found, alongside lower requirements for Krao Cave and Urugugu Canyon.
In Anders's global leveling route the temple comes late: after the second Ascension, which follows Urugugu Canyon, characters reach level 45 before the main story even ends. His advice for the Fire Temple's Exploration run is the same as for Krao Cave, to skip its reward and keep the Odyle Energy for Conquest (Leveling). Groups are formed across servers, since NC says all instanced content is cross-server (NC on Steam). One of the temple's names also turns up in NC's launch gifts: the pet chest that every player who logs in before the Dec 1, 2026 maintenance receives offers a pet called Black Smoke Murute, the name the Korean notes give the first boss, among its choices (NC; Pets and Mounts).
Frequently asked questions
What level do you need for the Fire Temple? On the global version, Exploration mode unlocks at level 35 and Conquest at 45, and the test client listed 2,100 item level, according to EUTOPIA. On the Korean and Taiwanese servers Conquest lists 2,200 item level, though RedCloud advises about 2,500 to be accepted into groups.
Who is the final boss of the Fire Temple? Kromede. She follows Black Smoke Marute and Red Spark Ignis, and her flame walls and the arrow volleys that follow them are the dungeon's main hazard.
How do you survive Kromede's flame wall? Dodge through it, rolling early if your latency is high, or use an immunity skill. Extra movement speed helps, and after each wall players should spread out and keep moving to avoid the flame arrows.
Does the Fire Temple drop Heroic gear? On the Korean and Taiwanese servers its Conquest cube can contain a Heroic ring, and Hard mode raises the chance of Hero gear. On the global version NC has removed Heroic gear for season 1, so the Fire Temple gives only its regular weapons.
Is there a Hard mode? On the Korean and Taiwanese servers, yes: Hard was added to the Temple of Fire at the maintenance of Dec 24, 2025, according to the fan translation of the patch notes.
Was the Fire Temple in the Launch Scale Test? Its Conquest mode was not, since Conquest opens at level 45 and the test capped characters at 37.
What is the Fire Temple Ordeal? A Korean and Taiwanese version from Sep 23, 2026 for level 50 characters with item level 4,800, in which the party sets its own difficulty from 4 to 16 stages for weekly Tokens of Overcoming. It is not part of the global season one.
