Asmodae in the lore

In the original game's history, as Azphel retells it, the Shedim Lords who went north after the Cataclysm named their people the Asmodians of Asmodae, and their lands were plunged into darkness. To survive the wasteland the Asmodians had to grow strong quickly, and their bodies changed: hands and feet became claws, manes grew along their backs, and their eyes glowed red in anger. Fearing his people would become mere animals, Lord Asphel had a new capital built, Pandaemonium.

Centuries later, as rumors spread that the Balaur were returning, Lord Marchutan foretold that a doorway would open in the desert of Morheim and that something would come through it. Asphel sent Lord Zikel there with an army to wait. The meeting that followed, with the Elyos Storm Legion, is told on Deltras.

In the 200 years before Aion 2, according to Azphel's summary of the launch story, Fafnir spread his influence across Asmodae through deception. Legions collapsed, faith in the Empyrean Lords declined, and crystals of his making stole Daevas' souls and turned them into his servants. Only the sacrifice of Zikel and his Arkans stopped Fafnir's advance, and the Dragon Lord is now trapped in a prison of blood.

Ishalgen

Ishalgen is the Asmodian starting zone (Fextralife). The story begins there with a raid on Fafnir's fortress, where a band of human mercenaries has been betrayed; a Daeva searching the fortress saves one survivor, the player, and tells them to find her in Altgard.

The village that takes the player in turns out to be under Fafnir's control. The villagers turn on the survivors of a crashed airship, the player escapes on that airship towards Altgard, and when it is brought down over the sea they swim the rest of the way.

Altgard

Altgard is the main Asmodian region of the launch content. NC's sponsored feature in PC Gamer names "the dreamy forests of Altgard" among the sights of the new Atreia (PC Gamer, sponsored content created with NC). Fextralife's region list, written from pre-launch material, describes these places:

Place Pre-launch description (Fextralife)
Fugitive Village A human settlement in northern Altgard, once a hideout for bandits and criminals, now a haven for anyone fleeing the increasingly frequent dragon attacks
Moslan Forest Between Altgard and the ruins of Basfelt, the original home of the Elim, still recovering after nearly burning to the ground
Nornir Gathering Hall The magically protected settlement the Nornir built after fleeing Moslan Forest, led by Urd, one of the three sisters of fate

Fextralife files the last two under its Elyos heading, but its own text places Moslan Forest beside Altgard, and the Asmodian campaign sends players there.

NC's About the Game page for the global launch shows five places on the Asmodian side with a picture of each: Safe Haven, a former criminals' haven in northern Altgard that Balaur attacks have left alone since the Dredgion fell; the Dredgion Crash Site, a scorched canyon tainted by Drakana from a crashed Fafnir Legion Dredgion; Sanctum Outpost, once a sanctuary of the Empyrean Lord Zikel and now a Balaur stronghold; Moslan Forest; and Nornir Assembly, the hidden settlement of the Nornir guided by Urd (NC). Fextralife's list places the Dredgion Crash Site and Zikel's former sanctuary, which it calls the Sanctuary Watchtower, in Verteron (see Elysea).

A settlement of wooden walkways, small tents and steep tent-like buildings with blue and white roofs spreads across red ground between rocky outcrops and green shrubs, under a pale sky with a large faint ring hanging in it.

A flat, cracked gray plain strewn with small stumps leads to clusters of sharp, black, spiky shapes and smoke rising in the distance, framed by curving dark spines in the foreground under an overcast sky.

A gigantic, gnarled tower like a dead tree trunk ringed with jutting platforms rises from a conical hill, tied by ropes to posts below, beyond a wall of wooden poles, with a pale arc of light across a hazy, cloudy sky.

In the story, the body of a high priest whose soul was stolen by Fafnir set Moslan Forest ablaze. The Nornir and their leader Urd helped put the fire out, and the player's search for the stolen soul leads to their village.

Leafless, gnarled trees with sprawling branches stand over a dark forest floor of dead roots and a broad stump, all washed in cold blue mist and light.

The Nornir, Azphel explains, are followers of the three sisters of fate: Daevas who were mutated by exposure to Drana and cast out by other Daevas, and whom the sisters treated with petrification to halt the change.

Seen from above, a sunny valley holds a village of small wooden houses, bridges and stairways built against huge pale rock pillars covered in moss and glowing green spiral carvings, with a circle of blue light on a lawn in the middle.

Like every region, Altgard is dotted with Sealed Dungeons, marked with question marks on the map. They are short solo instances with mobs, bosses and small puzzles, and one of their rewards is Daevanion crystals (see Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds and Daevanion Boards).

The launch story ends in Altgard. With Zikel's core recovered, the Daeva the player follows names Morheim as her next goal and the core of Marchutan, the Lord of Fate, as her prize, and Urd mentions that her sisters are already at work in Morheim.

Morheim

Morheim was added for the Asmodians on Jul 1, 2026 in Korea and Taiwan, together with Eltnen for the Elyos. Across the two regions NC added 20 Sealed Dungeons and six Strongholds, plus Monoliths, and raised the level cap to 50 (NC, Jun 17, 2026; NC, Jul 6, 2026). Madsin noted that only part of each new map opened at first (Madsin, at 2:08).

aLuckyRO, touring the region in July 2026, filmed snow-covered mountains above green grass and spring flowers, polar bears, a first outpost town built of timber in a mountain style, and a clear river running past it.

Further on he reached the region's major city, which floats in the air.

Madsin describes Morheim as a map of snow and lava. He found the snow area snowy but without a blizzard, and much less immersive than the original Morheim, and the lava area mostly canyons that cannot be explored, though he liked the approach to the Fire Temple.

Both new regions lack the capitals the original Morheim and Eltnen had, which were replaced with other capitals. He accepted that these are not meant to be the old maps, but thought names borrowed from the original do little for nostalgia when the places look nothing like them, the same complaint he had about Altgard and Verteron.

Large parts of the open section of Morheim were completely barren when he played, with no monsters, gathering nodes or quests, which made the map feel small and restrictive.

Visiting Asmodae from Elysea

Elyos characters reach Asmodae through rifts, which open to players of level 45 and above. NC's global team said on Sep 11, 2026 that rifts open about every three hours, three or four at a time, and allow about an hour on the other side (NC stream, at 17:36). Society Of Gaming advises clearing the Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds on the enemy's map as well once level 45 is reached (Society Of Gaming, at 1:36). See Spacetime Rift.
