Muspel's Chalice

Muspel's Chalice (Chalice of Muspel in NC's English release), the Sanctuary raid Aion 2 added in Korea and Taiwan on May 27, 2026: the lava temple setting, item level 4,500, bosses Iskariel and Kaldrix, Normal and Hard modes, and its rewards.

Muspel's Chalice is a Sanctuary raid in Aion 2, released on the Korean and Taiwanese service on May 27, 2026. NC's English press release calls it Chalice of Muspel, and NC's preview a fortnight earlier gave it as Musphel's Goblet; players and fan sites mostly say Muspel's Chalice. NC sets it in an ancient temple sunk beneath the lava deep inside the Muspel volcano, which resurfaced after intense seismic activity, and called it the most challenging PvE dungeon in the game at release. Its first boss is Iskariel and its final boss Kaldrix. The raid is Korean and Taiwanese content; it is not in the first season of the global version, which launches on Oct 5, 2026.

Release

NC previewed the raid on its livestream of May 12, 2026 as the new Sanctuary for May 27 (NC). Its release announcement on May 27 described the temple setting, set the entry requirement at item level 4,500 with unlimited attempts inside the time limit, and named the boss, spelled Scourage Kaldrix, whose defeat can drop the Lava Heart Weapon (Extend), the Lava Heart Barrier and the Kaldrix Brooch. The first players to clear it received an exclusive pet, the Red Dragon. The same update added Genesis and Nemesis Dragon Lord weapon and guard sets, made only through Transfer Crafting, new Abyss PvP equipment, higher character stat caps and a Wings Enhance System (NC; Flight and Wings).

The fan site Aion2 Hub's translation of the Korean notes adds detail. It renders the final boss as Caldrix, Calamity of the Depths; says final-boss kills and rewards are capped at two and that rewards drop only when the final boss dies; and says the new Brooch equipment slot is filled by converting an Equipment Change Ticket from the raid together with Kina. A first-clear event, "Raise the First Chalice", went to the force with the first kill (Aion2 Hub). Its notes for Jun 10, 2026 add a Normal difficulty, a retry option while a run is in progress but out of combat, two Attunement Stones instead of one from each Odyle Energy Cube, and the title given to the first-clear force (Aion2 Hub).

Anders places the raid in the wider gear picture. Sanctuaries are where the best bracelets come from, and brooches and seals are the other two slots that come from raids; in Korea brooches came with this third raid, Chalice of Muspel, and seals with the newer Snowfield of Sorrow. Neither raid is in the global version's first season, so for global players both slots are future upgrades.

Normal and Hard

With a Normal and a Hard mode, Muspel's Chalice was the top of Korean PvE through the summer, and Madsin, a Cleric who raids it on stream, thought that was not enough. In his Chapter 1 review of Jul 3, 2026 he says Sanctuary as a whole is not difficult enough, notes that even with two modes there is still no weapon pity, and says he had long expected a much harder mode with weapon pity for players who want to push. He calls the final boss a decent fight, but nowhere near what he would call the pinnacle of a PvE game.

Entrance and first boss: Iskariel

Storyteller, a Korean creator explaining in English how Korean groups clear Hard, starts at the entrance, where each of the two parties has its own area with a circle and a large statue. Someone, usually a healer, stands in the circle to weaken the statue, the party destroys it and flies on. He also advises using every buff food and consumable available, since this is the end content of the game.

The first boss's main gimmick is a game of red and green orbs that Storyteller likens to football. In Korean groups party one takes the red orbs and party two the green, and within each party players one and two work as a team, as do players three to five, with each pair assigned positions round the arena like the hours of a clock. The boss's wide area attacks and laser, he says, are avoided with a perfect dodge or by keeping distance.

At about 75 per cent the boss casts its judgment: members of party one must be hit by a red orb and party two by a green one, then carry their orbs apart by attacking them, because overlapping orbs kill. One wide attack is marked by a shield image and must be blocked, or it leaves a large damaging area, and the boss periodically pulls the whole force to its center, where a perfect dodge avoids the follow-up.

At about 50 per cent comes what he calls the football phase. Each player pushes an orb into the goal of the same color while steering clear of a black hole that swallows orbs. When all of the boss's orbs float away and start to blink, everyone must spread out at once.

Madsin's Cleric view of the first boss, uploaded on release day, catches the moment his force finally gets it down: the boss's health lower than ever before, the entire force alive and the boss about to be staggered, and then the kill.

Final boss: Kaldrix

Madsin's Hard-mode Cleric view of Kaldrix, uploaded on Jun 26, 2026, is the clearest record of the final fight in English, told through the raid's calls. Early on the callers read out sequences of red, green and blue and then call for the force to spread.

Later calls come thick and fast: a wall, left and right beams and a normal beam, a V formation, and the order to spread first, then stack, and remember to bait.

The transition is called by the mini-map. Group one goes north and group two south, nobody is to hit the boss, and the groups move clockwise with a timer running, at one point with 18 seconds left.

Rewards

The boss's drops at release were the Lava Heart Weapon (Extend), the Lava Heart Barrier and the Kaldrix Brooch, with the Red Dragon pet reserved for the first clear (NC). The Brooch was a new equipment slot, and the fan translation of the notes has it filled by converting a ticket from the raid with Kina. Those notes also cap final-boss kills and rewards at two, and the Jun 10 patch raised the Attunement Stones each Odyle Energy Cube gives from one to two. Gear from raids fits into the wider system described on Gear Progression; later Korean updates are listed on Updates and Seasons.
