Enhancement and Soul Imprint

How Aion 2 strengthens equipment: enhancement with stones and Kina, safe levels and failure, amplification past +15, amulets, belts and runes, manastones and god stones, Soul Imprint (bind, sync, reset, tuning), Potential, transfer, the paid enhancement items of the Korean launch, and the upgrade materials of the global launch events.

Enhancement and Soul Imprint are the main ways to strengthen equipment in Aion 2: enhancement raises an item's level with enhancement stones and Kina, while the Soul Imprint systems work on the random stats each item carries, rolling, raising and exchanging them. Azphel's overview of the enchantment system, recorded a week after the Korean launch, advises upgrading gear even while leveling, but carefully, because every step costs Kina. The name Soul Imprint comes from the fan translation of the Korean patch notes; English-speaking creators on the Korean and Taiwanese servers generally call the stat screens soul binding. Which gear is worth upgrading is covered on Gear Progression.

Quick facts

Materials Enhancement stones and Kina
Safe range +1 to +10 always succeed (Azphel, November 2025)
Failure above +10 Level kept, next attempt 5% more likely, stones lost
Past +15 Five further steps needing amplification materials (Sen, aselon_eu)
Extraction Returns enhancement stones, not Kina, and unlocks the item's skin
Soul binding actions Bind, Sync and Reset
Tuning Tuning Stones adjust options under Integrated Strengthening, Soul Imprint, Tuning (Korea and Taiwan, Dec 16, 2025, fan translation)
Potential PvE bonuses for dungeon gear; not transferable
Enhancement caps (global test) +5 for green and +10 for blue gear, against +10 and +15 in Korea (EUTOPIA)
Global launch extras Soul Codex in the A2 Mileage shop; Enhancement Stones from Twitch Drops and the Transcendence leaderboard (NC, Sep 30, 2026)

Enhancement

Enhancing needs enhancement stones and Kina. Side quests pay a good amount of Kina, and stones come from almost everything in the game, Sealed Dungeons being one of the biggest sources. Unwanted drops can be extracted for a small Kina fee, which gives the item's skin and more enhancement stones, so Azphel extracts everything he does not need. Daily dungeons offer a steady supply too: Anders advises putting early entries into the one that pays enhancement stones (Daily Dungeons and Shugo Festa).

An item climbs one level at a time. Up to +10 every attempt succeeds; beyond that an attempt can fail, in which case the item keeps its level, the next attempt gains 5% more chance, and the stones used are lost. Early on, Azphel does not go past +10, because the stones are too valuable to risk.

The stones are not tied to the item. A player who has taken a weapon to +10 and finds a better one can extract the old weapon, get back every enhancement stone put into it, and take the new weapon straight to +10. The Kina is not refunded, which is why Grobs calls the late game "all about Kina".

Each slot gains different stats from enhancement. The weapon raises minimum and maximum attack and the guard raises attack; the armor pieces (helmet, pauldrons, top, legs, gloves, shoes and cloak) raise defense and health; and the accessories (necklace, earrings, rings and bracelets) raise attack and defense.

The ceiling has moved beyond +10. Sen's Gladiator guide of July 2026 shows gear enhanced to +15 and then through five further steps that need amplification materials. aselon_eu explains that amplification stones are morphed from enhancement stones and fragments dropped in dungeons, and are needed to enhance Unique gear past +15 and Heroic gear past +20. The fan site aion2hub reports that the Korean update of Dec 31, 2025 doubled the defense and health gained from enhancing armor and accessories, and that Feb 11, 2026 made Heroic enhancement cheaper.

Amulets, belts and runes

Some special items follow their own rules. The amulet is permanent and comes in a PvE version (weapon damage, penetration and a power shard bonus) and a PvP version. Each is enhanced with its own scrolls, earned by handing feathers in at the Monoliths of Verteron or Altgard for PvE and of the Abyss for PvP. At +10 the amulet is taken off and upgraded through Substance Morph from green to blue, and later from blue to golden. The belt works the same way, except that its enhancement scroll comes from Strongholds (Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds). Chapter 1 added Hero-grade Amulets and Belts in Korea and Taiwan on Jul 1, 2026 (NC).

Runes are riskier. There are PvE runes, which add PvE damage and damage tolerance, and PvP runes, which do the same for PvP. Enhancing a rune is never certain, and if it fails the rune vanishes, which can drop a character's gear score sharply, so Azphel upgrades one only with a spare in the inventory. PvP runes are bought from the Abyss shop and PvE runes with Nightmare currency (Nightmare and Ascension Trial).

Manastones, soul stones and god stones

Weapons and armor have slots for manastones, four on Azphel's golden weapon and three on his blue guard. Socketing a manastone rolls random stats of gray, green, blue or golden quality. Lesser manastones, which drop from monsters, dungeons and Strongholds, can only roll gray or green stats, but alchemy combines five lesser stones into an intermediate one with better odds (Crafting and Gathering). Accessories take soul stones, which work the same way. God stones, as players of the original game call them, go into the weapon or guard for about 10,000 Kina and add chance-based effects; they come from side quests and hidden cubes, and removing one destroys it. The best stones for each class are on Manastone Guide and Theostone Guide.

Not every creator thinks manastones are worth chasing. xMontu's Gladiator guide of August 2026 skips them entirely, calling the system "extremely unfair" with no transfer or pity, and advises rolling until the result is decent and then moving on rather than going all in for the best stats.

Soul Imprint: bind, sync and reset

The fan translation of the Korean and Taiwanese patch notes of Dec 16, 2025 describes Tuning Stones and Tuning Stone Fragments, earned by grade from Expedition and Sanctuary rewards, which "tune the power imbued in your equipment". Twelve Unique fragments convert into a Unique Tuning Stone, which can in turn become a Hero one, and the stones are used on equipment under Integrated Strengthening, then Soul Imprint, then Tuning (Patch Notes, Fextralife).

RedCloud's guide of December 2025 explains the soul binding screen, which he finds poorly explained in the game, as three actions: bind, sync and reset. Binding uses books from achievements, login rewards and the pass, free tier included, plus some Kina, to raise how much of each rolled stat an item actually delivers, up to 100%; on a good item every stat should eventually be bound to the full value. Reset rerolls every stat on the item at once, which Sen notes uses books called Soul Codex.

Sync destroys a Unique item to reroll one chosen stat on another piece. It works only on Unique gear, so RedCloud's first rule is never to throw away a Unique drop, which players later buy on the market for exactly this purpose. The result is random, and it can land on the very stat the player was trying to replace, as happened in his own demonstration. Azphel's earlier guide describes sync as using a duplicate of the same piece.

The rolling is the most criticized part of Aion 2's gear. aselon_eu's review of February 2026 calls feeding item after item into a piece until it rolls something usable "one of the most frustrating systems in the game", with some players spending dozens of Unique items on one stat; he welcomes the special Hero items later added through Substance Morph, which change stats without sacrificing gear, and the stat transfer that copies all stat lines to a new item for free. xMontu publishes per-slot priority lists of soul binding stats based on top Gladiators' builds. NC's Season 2 roadmap promised expanded Sync options for armor (NC), and the fan site aion2hub lists a "new Soul Binding system" in its summary of the Korean update of Feb 11, 2026, although English-speaking creators were already demonstrating bind, sync and reset in December 2025.

Potential

Potential adds PvE bonuses to dungeon gear: PvE damage on weapons, PvE damage resistance on armor and PvE damage on accessories. FRESHY's guide explains that its materials come from dungeon equipment broken down through Substance Morph, so duplicate drops are worth keeping. Potential does not move to a new item, so he advises investing little in pieces that will soon be replaced. The fan site aion2hub dates Potential Enhancement for dungeon gear in Korea to Mar 4, 2026, its extension to field-boss gear to Mar 11, and gear potential in the Abyss to Apr 8.

Everything else built up on an item, including enhancement levels, upgrade stages and soul binding effects, can be moved to a replacement through the transfer system.

Enhancement was at the center of the storm when Aion 2 launched in Korea and Taiwan on Nov 19, 2025. MassivelyOP reported that players "lashed out almost immediately" over cash shop packages bundling gear enhancement items that NC had said would not be sold for money. NC's stock fell 15%, and the lead developers held an apologetic livestream promising to remove the bundles and give their enhancement items to all players for free, to remove skill reset costs and to halve the prices of cash shop consumables (MassivelyOP; Controversies).

Criticism of the upgrade systems outlasted the bundles. KaidGames2, two days after launch, counted enhancement materials and randomized upgrading among the ways the game sells advantages; in December 2025 Grobs complained that optimizing gear takes enormous amounts of Kina and that every upgrade is a chance rather than a certainty (Kina and Quna). Korea's Chapter 1 update later sold optional tokens for returning players that include enhancement currencies: New World Explorer provides growth materials such as Sync Stones, and Slow But Steady pays Enhance Stones, Potential Stones and Soul Crystals through repeatable missions (NC). Korea's soul binding kept growing in the weeks before the global launch: the Sep 9, 2026 update added Philosopher's Stone: Truth, converted from ten Philosopher's Stones: Power (NC).

Upgrade materials on the global version

The global build changes the ceilings. EUTOPIA, comparing items from the Launch Scale Test with the Korean client, read enhancement caps of +5 for green equipment and +10 for blue, against +10 and +15 in Korea, and found the PvE damage boost and tolerance that Korean gear carries by default moved into the Potential system. Anders's advice for the first days of the global version is to hold off on enhancing anything until the full progression path is known, because "the global build is just very different".

NC's business model notice for the global version says shop consumables "do not affect gear progression or long-term power" (NC). Some upgrade materials still come from outside ordinary play. The A2 Mileage shop, opened on Sep 30, 2026 and filled by money spent in the shop, sells a bound Soul Codex, the book used for resets, for 2,000 Mileage, up to three times per character a day (NC). Twitch Drops pay 5,000 Enhancement Stones for two hours of watching during Advanced Access, and another 5,000 bound stones and two Soul Codex: Reset for watching from Oct 5 to 16 (NC on Steam). The Transcendence Dungeon Leaderboard, which runs to Nov 2, gives each server's top 10 in every class 35,000 Enhance Stones, 30 Unique Amplify Stones, a Philosopher's Stone: Revelation and five Soul Codex Resets, and places 11 to 50 smaller amounts (NC on Steam; Transcendence Dungeons).

Frequently asked questions

Is enhancing gear safe in Aion 2? Up to +10, yes: every attempt succeeds. Beyond +10 an attempt can fail, which keeps the item's level but loses the stones used.

Do you lose enhancement stones when you replace an item? No. Extracting the old item returns its enhancement stones, but the Kina spent is gone. The transfer system can also move enhancement levels to a new item.

What is Soul Imprint, or soul binding? The set of systems that work on an item's random stats: binding raises them towards full value with books, reset rerolls them all, sync rerolls one by sacrificing a Unique item, and Tuning Stones adjust options.

What does sync do? It destroys a Unique item to reroll one chosen stat on another piece of gear. The new stat is random and can be the same as the old one.

Does Potential transfer to new gear? No. Potential stays on the item, so it is best built up on dungeon pieces a player means to keep.

Can you buy enhancement items with real money? At the Korean launch the cash shop sold bundles containing enhancement items; after the backlash NC removed them and gave the items to all players. Korea later sold optional progression tokens that include enhancement currencies. On the global version, NC says shop consumables do not affect gear progression, but the A2 Mileage earned by shop purchases buys bound Soul Codex books, up to three a day per character.

Where do global players get extra enhancement stones? Besides play, from events: Twitch Drops give 5,000 Enhancement Stones in each of the two drop campaigns (Sep 30 to Oct 4 and Oct 5 to 16, 2026), and the Transcendence Dungeon Leaderboard gives each server's top 10 per class 35,000.
