Platforms

Where Aion 2 runs: on PC and mobile with cross-play in Korea and Taiwan, and on Windows PC alone everywhere else, through Steam and NC's PURPLE launcher, which share servers and content. Controllers work without official support, Linux and Steam Deck are unsupported, and a console version is planned without a date.

Aion 2 runs on different platforms depending on the version. The Korean and Taiwanese service, live since Nov 19, 2025, is played on PC and on Android and iOS phones and tablets, with cross-play on a single account. The global version, open to Founder's Pack buyers in Advanced Access since Sep 30, 2026 and to everyone from Oct 5, is PC only, on Windows through Steam or NC's own PURPLE launcher, which share the same servers and content; NC says it is "built specifically for PC". As CrusherXGaming noted in August 2026, there is no western mobile version; NC has since said that a console version is planned after the PC launch, without a date and probably without cross-play. Hardware specifications are on System Requirements.

Korea and Taiwan: PC and mobile

NC launched Aion 2 in Korea and Taiwan on PC and mobile at the same moment, and pre-registration in September 2025 ran through the official site, Google Play and the App Store. When it published its specifications on Nov 12, 2025, NCSOFT stressed "perfect crossplay support": players can switch between PC and mobile on the same account, and "all in-game content is provided equally across each platform" (Gamevu).

Before launch the developers had set expectations lower for phones. TheLazyPeon reported in August 2025 that, while the game would be playable on mobile, they did not expect mobile players to take on the difficult content, and saw the mobile version as a place for casual activities such as crafting, gathering and mini-games.

That is how many players use it. aLuckyRO describes logging in to a PC character from a phone while out during the day to do daily activities, some farming and the easier PvE content.

On Android the game arrives in two stages: a launcher of about 300 MB, then about 7.5 GB for the game itself. Players then sign in with their NC account and register the phone as a device, as they did for their PC.

The mobile version is not sold everywhere. aLuckyRO notes that it does not appear in western regions of the App Store or Google Play, and that the account's registered region decides whether a player lands on the Korean or the Taiwanese servers.

NCSOFT's published phone requirements are below, with tablets as aLuckyRO read them from NC's specification in October 2025.

Device Minimum Recommended
Android phone Galaxy S10, Android 12 or later Galaxy S23
iPhone iPhone 12 Pro or later iPhone 14 series or later
Android tablet Galaxy Tab S7 Galaxy Tab S9
iPad iPad Pro (M1) iPad Pro (M4)

aLuckyRO translated those models into chips: a Snapdragon 855 with 6 GB of memory for the minimum Android phone and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 8 GB for the recommended one, so a phone of about five years old can start the game.

Not everyone found the result convincing. Grobs, after 250 hours, felt the game combined a mobile-style interface and simplified systems with content that was not really playable on a phone, and compared it with Throne and Liberty's move from a mobile plan to PC.

PC dominated from the start. NC said in November 2025 that it had introduced "a proprietary PC payment system at launch" and that PC payments made up more than 90% of the total, which kept Aion 2 lower in mobile store charts than its revenue suggested: on Nov 20 it was fifth by revenue on the App Store and between 30th and 40th on Google Play (Asia Economy).

Access from outside the two regions depends on the account. kets and his games reported that the Korean version requires identity verification with a Korean ID number, while the Taiwanese version accepts any account that selects Taiwan as its region; players far away then face high ping (Korea and Taiwan Launch).

Global: PC only

The global version is Windows only. Steam lists it as free to play, supporting Windows but not macOS or Linux, with Family Sharing and accessibility options, and released on Oct 5, 2026; the Launch Scale Test of Sep 17 and 18 ran as a separate Steam app, Aion 2 Playtest. NC's Launch FAQ of Sep 30, 2026 says that while the game "may be playable on other platforms or devices", NC supports only Steam and PURPLE on Windows PC, which rules out official support for Linux and the Steam Deck; Steam had not yet rated its Steam Deck compatibility (NC on Steam; Steam).

Steam Flow tried the Sep 17 test build on a Steam Deck anyway. At the lowest settings with FSR on balanced it ran at around 30 FPS, often dropping below 30 and even below 20 once combat started, which he did not find playable, and the battery lasted around two and a half hours (System Requirements).

Mobile stayed off the table. NC's pre-release FAQ of Sep 16 said the global version was "currently being developed exclusively for PC platforms", its Launch FAQ answers the mobile question with Steam and PURPLE alone, and NC America told Wccftech there are "no plans for the mobile version"; mein-mmo concluded that Aion 2 will not come to mobile in the West (NC on Steam; Wccftech; mein-mmo).

Controllers

NC's answer on controllers changed over the summer. In a Wccftech Q&A published on Sep 7, 2026, NC America said: "Absolutely, controllers are supported". NC's pre-release FAQ of Sep 16 said the game was playable with a controller but that NC was still evaluating whether full controller support was within its scope for launch, and the Launch FAQ of Sep 30 settled on: "While Aion 2 is playable with a controller, it is not officially supported." The Steam store page lists no controller support (Wccftech; NC on Steam).

Steam Flow, testing the Launch Scale Test build on a Steam Deck, described full controller support in practice: he found that combat, movement and flying all worked on the controller and felt natural, while menus and the inventory still expected a mouse cursor.

Consoles

NC America told Wccftech that a console version is planned after the PC launch, that cross-play with it "probably won't be supported", and that DLSS 5 is in the works with NVIDIA; MassivelyOP read the same interview as a console version without content parity (Wccftech; MassivelyOP). mein-mmo reported on Sep 30, 2026, citing a Japanese interview from July, that NC is working on a PS5 version; no console version has a date or a confirmed platform list (mein-mmo).

Anti-cheat

The global client uses NCGUARD, NC's own anti-cheat. When it closes the game it shows a block code, and NC's help center points players to an NCGUARD page that explains the codes; the Steam store page carries no anti-cheat notice (NC Help, FAQ 7154; Steam).

Steam or PURPLE

Both stores carried the global client from the first public test. Streaming the Launch Scale Test for NC on Sep 18, 2026, community broadcaster Stella told viewers the test was open to anyone on Steam and PURPLE, and that she was playing on Steam.

Asked by a viewer whether Steam or PURPLE is better, she answered that it is a matter of preference, and that she uses Steam for everything.

NC's Launch FAQ confirms that "the in-game content is the same for both Steam and Purple users" and that Steam and PURPLE players share the same servers. Linking the two accounts is optional: a Steam player can play without a PURPLE account, but anyone who wants the same character and progress on both platforms has to link them (NC on Steam). NC's help center explains the rest. Linking is done on PURPLE's Aion 2 page under login management, with the Steam link option, and undone with "Disconnect"; a character made through Steam can be played on PURPLE by signing in with Steam, and a PURPLE character can be played on Steam once the NC account is linked to Steam (FAQ 7213; FAQ 7236; FAQ 7176; FAQ 7177). During Advanced Access, though, Founder's Pack buyers played only on the platform where they bought the pack (NC; Founder's Packs). On Sep 30 some players who had joined an earlier beta could not link their NC account to Steam because it was "already linked", and mein-mmo's live ticker reported that unlinking the temporary beta account on NC's site solved it (mein-mmo).

Society Of Gaming, who plays the Korean and Taiwanese version through PURPLE, describes it as NC's global platform, one he has used for about seven years for games including Aion, Throne and Liberty and Lineage Classic.

Payment is the practical difference. He points to NC's notice that PURPLE purchases require a one-time verification of the player's card and are processed by Xsolla, whereas on Steam players spend from their Steam wallet as usual.

NC has since added payment options on PURPLE: Apple Pay for Aion 2 from Sep 23, 2026 in 56 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil and Mexico, while Cash App Pay in the United States was delayed with no new date (NC). NC's help center says checkout currently supports US dollars only, after earlier support for euros and pounds (FAQ 7173).

On Steam, Aion 2 could be wishlisted before release, and the Founder's Packs are sold there too (Founder's Packs).

Neither store is open everywhere. In August 2026 he showed a list of 18 countries and territories where the game is blocked on both Steam and PURPLE, among them South Korea and Taiwan (which have their own service), Russia, Belarus, Belgium and the Netherlands.

NC's help center gives the same 18 as places where it "cannot accept payments or allow play": China, Vietnam, Cuba, Syria, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Macau, Russia, Belarus, Belgium, the Netherlands, Curacao, Bonaire, Saint Maarten, Aruba, Serbia and Slovakia (FAQ 7165). Southeast Asia is served, but on Sep 30 NC told PURPLE users in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand that they may not see Aion 2 in their game list until they switch PURPLE's region setting to "Global" (NC).

He chose Steam for the global version to keep it apart from his Korean and Taiwanese PURPLE accounts, stressing that everyone starts from zero on the global servers; NC's Launch FAQ confirms that no progress carries over from the Korean or Taiwanese version. The Launch Scale Test added one practical step: Steam players had to uninstall the Playtest app and download Aion 2 separately before Advanced Access, while PURPLE players needed to do nothing.

Servers and regions

The Korean launch ran on 40 servers, with Elyos and Asmodians on separate servers (MassivelyOP; NC). The global plan grew from four regions in NC's April 2026 announcement (North America, South America, Europe and Japan) to five server regions confirmed in August.

NC America named them on Aug 7, 2026: NA West, NA East, South America, Central Europe and Japan. Players designate a region at first login and are not region-locked, so they can join friends elsewhere if they accept the latency (Global Release).

NC's own server list for Advanced Access names the regions Europe, NA West, NA East, Latin America and Asia, the last hosted in Japan. Each server holds one faction and is paired with a server of the other; the first line-up on Sep 29 had ten pairs, and more opened in Europe and Asia on Sep 30. All instanced content, dungeons included, is cross-server. The server names, pairings, queues and transfers are on Servers.

CrusherXGaming's advice follows from that: pick the region for latency first, because there is no local server for Southeast Asia or Oceania, and Japan is probably the best route for players there.

Latency matters more than in most MMORPGs. TheLazyPeon, who played the Launch Scale Test on the Japanese servers, found 100 ms of ping too high for a game with such a short global cooldown and such small dodge windows, and called Aion 2 very ping-sensitive compared with games like World of Warcraft.

The regional servers helped players who had been playing from afar. Sen, who learned the game on the Taiwanese servers at around 170 to 200 ms, found the global test far more responsive, with cleaner combos and faster animation canceling.

Frequently asked questions

Is Aion 2 on PS5, Xbox or Switch? Not yet. NC told Wccftech in September 2026 that a console version is planned after the PC launch, probably without cross-play, and mein-mmo reported work on a PS5 version, but no console release has a date. The Korean and Taiwanese version runs on PC and mobile; the global version is PC only.

Can you play Aion 2 on a phone? Only in the Korean and Taiwanese version, on Android and iOS, with cross-play with PC. The global version has no mobile client, and NC has said it has no plans for one.

Should I play Aion 2 on Steam or PURPLE? Both carry the same free-to-play global version on the same servers, with the same content. Steam uses the Steam wallet; PURPLE purchases need a one-time card verification through Xsolla, according to NC's notice, and accept Apple Pay in 56 countries.

Can I play the same character on Steam and PURPLE? Yes, once the accounts are linked on PURPLE's Aion 2 page. Linking is optional, and during Advanced Access Founder's Pack buyers played only on the platform where they bought the pack.

Does Aion 2 support controllers? A controller works, but NC's Launch FAQ of Sep 30, 2026 says it is not officially supported, and Steam lists no controller support.

Does Aion 2 run on Mac, Linux or Steam Deck? Steam lists Windows only. NC says the game may be playable on other platforms or devices, but it supports only Steam and PURPLE on Windows PC.

Is Aion 2 global region-locked? Players choose any of the global server regions at first login. The game is blocked in 18 countries and territories, among them South Korea and Taiwan, which have their own service.

Can I use my Korean or Taiwanese character on the global version? No. NC's Launch FAQ says no progress carries over between the Korean or Taiwanese version and the global one.
